You know what I freaking miss? PEOPLE. Trust me, I love a good day to myself watching Real Housewives in my bed. But after a year of seeing barely anyone face-to-face, I am OVER it. I miss the energy of occupying the same physical space as people I love, the excitement of traveling to see those people –– something that just can’t be duplicated over Zoom.
It’s now been a full year in COVID-land, and it’s been over 2 years since I was last home in South Africa. This is the longest I’ve ever been away. I miss seeing @CTAOP’s Program Partners in action, and I miss bonding with the incredible young people they serve.
And I know you’re all with me. We ALL want the pandemic to end so we can get back to the things we love. The power to end COVID-19 faster is in our hands –– but only if people around the world can get a vaccine. So far, 75% of the vaccines delivered globally have gone to just 10 countries. Many people in some of the most fragile places in the world – including South Africa – do not have access. And that’s why I’m proud to support the @unitednations global vaccination effort to help ensure everyone is protected from COVID-19. #OnlyTogether can we end this pandemic.

Our RAD Impact Award is providing the opportunity for every child in Buffalo City to return to school through the incredible support and services of @spfinfo. The Eastern Cape has experienced a horrifying 30% drop out rate since the pandemic, so we are focusing our impact there — on getting each and every child back to being a learner, where they are safe, fed, and given the opportunity to thrive as they deserve!

As a UN Messenger of Peace, mother and human being, the stunning events of the last year have shocked my system. The pandemic and the many crises facing the world, I never thought……..POSSIBLE.
Many things we thought were impossible have been turned on their heads. But now, as we inch towards the opportunity of a new chapter with the freaking miracle of a vaccine, I want to challenge us to take the @unitednations’s lead and set our sights on all of the GOOD that is possible when we work together and embody the spirit of #Ubuntu –– I am because WE are.
