***Photo has nothing to do with my caption except to hopefully bring more attention to the horrific migrant crisis. (If correlation between photo and caption is offensive please let me know) It is my belief that awareness leads to outrage and outrage leads to action/change. This is old news that I honestly was not fully aware of as it came out during the crazy election time but it is horrific and I think crucial that we are made aware of how our country treats migrants. In September it was reported by a whistleblower inside an ICE detention center that migrant women were forcibly being sterilized. The US has a long history of medical violence towards BIPOC. More specifically, gynecology has an extremely violent and controversial past that dates back to slavery. Gynecology was founded using Black bodies as test subjects. Enslaved women were experimented on often having to endure operations without anesthesia. Between the 60s-70s thousands of Native American women were sterilized against their knowledge or consent. This is just one example of the numerous forced sterilizations that have occurred on BIPOC under the US government’s watch. THIS IS STILL HAPPENING TODAY. Thanks to a whistleblower report by Dawn Wooten, a former nurse at a Georgia ICE detention center it came out that ICE was performing hysterectomies on migrant women WITHOUT their knowledge or consent. These forced surgeries were disguised as “routine gynecological screenings.” In addition, Wooten also reported that the facility was not following CDC guidelines or standard Covid protocols. She alleges detainees were refused Covid tests despite having symptoms and staff was forced to work even if they were symptomatic amongst many other serious allegations. As of a few weeks ago more than 40 women have submitted written testimony claiming medical abuse. It should be noted that these women face retribution for speaking out and even deportation. Of course ICE has not admitted to the charges and the monster of a “doctor” Dr. Mahendra Amin denies the allegations. (Cont. in comments)
