Lisa Ray Instagram – My newest stack, and not because Time Magazine told me to read them.
A few pages into #Aftershocks and I had to put it aside. Such beautiful, melancholic language is a gash to my chest. I’m also very partial to books that place an agonising search for belonging at the centre, as writer Nadia Owusu has.
Detransition, Baby is apparently, ā€˜An unforgettable portrait of three women, trans and cis, who wrestle with questions of motherhood and family making . . . Detransition, Baby might destroy your book club, but in a good way.ā€ according to Andrea Lawlor, author of Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl. Well. Any book that brings out the Lord of the Flies qualities in book clubs has my attention. Torrey Peters, the author is a trans woman who writes from inside experience without sugar coating.
#ConcreteRose is a cautionary tale about teen parenthood by talented writer Angie Thomas and I’m on board for where she’s taking me.
