This is with profound grief and immense sorrow, the Nehru Zoological Park announces the passing away of the iconic female Asiatic Elephant; Rani (83 years).
I’m humbled to have been given the opportunity to play a small role in her life. It was an instant connection that I’m very fortunate to be able to cherish forever. 🙏
Born on 07.10.1938, Rani was one of the oldest Elephant in captivity. It was transferred from Bagh-e- Aam (Public Garden), Nampally, Hyderabad to Nehru Zoological park on 01.10.1963.
Rani lived its life to the fullest and took food till last day and left without any major physical suffering. It relished sugarcane, millets, grasses, fruits like banana etc. She breathed her last on 08.06.2021 and the post-mortem indicated old age related multiple organ failure as the cause of death.
Normal Life Expectancy of an Asiatic Elephant is 60 years, and in captivity it is a little beyond 70.
Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad celebrated Rani’s Birthday every year with great zeal. She was very polite, cooperative, and friendly matriarch to the elephant family at Zoo. Her demise has left the Zoo officers and staff heartbroken. The Zoo Officials and staff, in particular the animal keepers of the elephant enclosure paid floral tributes to Rani and recalled the cherished memories of her being part of the Zoo family.
#RIP Rani ❤️⭐️🙏

There’s still HOPE, though reality around us sucks !
Nevertheless I’m trying to stay positive & strong
Life must go on.
We as a family are trying to do the best we can for everyone 🙏
Don’t hesitate to reach out. We are in this together.
U can all help :
1. Stay safe, wear a mask. I know home can get claustrophobic, but do stay in as much as possible.
2. Don’t spread false news without adequate research.
3. Be nice to urself & the people around u. Everyone is affected by this trauma in some way or the other.
Lots of love.
Upasana. ❤️
Bringing reliable healthcare to remote areas like the Nallamala forest is not a challenge anymore
Keeping in line with #TotalHealth ‘s prime objective, this SATELLITE CLINIC is an integral part of the wholesome development of the Indian Rural & Tribal populace.
Along with the help of over 300 Arrjava warriors we hope to slowly transform the living standards & health of not just this bustling forest community… but all those like it scattered across India.

– 18,500 Chenchu Tribal families have access to first aid in the Nallamala Forest.
– 30,000 Chenchu Tribal families are now empowered with important knowledge on
nutrition, hygiene, covid care, sexual & maternal well-being, protecting the forest, reducing poaching & resources to deal with corruption.
Stay tuned for more updates on our passion project.
Working with in the forest has been close to my heart. This is just the beginning.

Rural & tribal India are an important part of our population. If left unsupported, bouncing back from this global crisis will be a huge challenge.
We are doing our best to help protect remote communities by setting up isolation centres & several awareness drives on covid care.
#SustainTheMission to bring #TotalHealth throughout India.
A big thank you to #greenkogroup , #ctrlS , the police & the government authorities who continue to help us in the midst of the #covid_19 pandemic –
Specially in the middle of the forest 🌳 🐅

#Hope 🙏
Members of the forest department have been going above & beyond their regular duties during these challenging times.
From aiding in the set up of isolation centre’s in the forest to organizing forest-wide plastic drives.
Without their support, none of the recent achievements would have been possible.
We wholeheartedly thank these unsung heroes of the forest. Their countless contributions shall not go unnoticed as they continue to set an example for the true spirit of human collaboration.

Post the skills training program by the Total Health initiative – tribes are crafting beautiful home décor & utility products from locally grown tufted grass.
Over the past year, they’ve made close to 10,000 ropes used in a whole range of eco-friendly products.
If you would like to collaborate pls DM @apollofoundation
Working with @anneysaghosh from Hausoos, the #TotalHealth Mission is enabling tribal communities to turn their available knowledge & expertise into potential livelihoods. A win for the forest, the tribes and everyone trying to live a more sustainable life.
@apollototalhealth @theapollohospitals
The Ambrabad Tiger Reserve has devised a comprehensive way to #restore what was before. Collecting plastic from the Nallamala forest while at the same time generating employment for the tribes that live within it.
The Apollo Foundation’s Total Health, keeping with UNEP #generationrestoration is working with Hausoos to bolster this initiative by mobilizing and coordinating this forest plastic drive into the largest to ever be conducted in an Indian forest.
Initiated by DFO @rohithgopidi this model can be replicated across the country with little diligent planning and a lot of passion. A pragmatic solution to a pervasive problem that embodies the true spirit of #generationrestoration
