Twenty years since @pia.guerra and I started working on the first issue, and absolutely worth the wait. Thanks to showrunner @elizaaclarkw and everyone who worked so hard to make this happen.
It’s real. And it’s spectacular. Co-creator @pia.guerra and I are both over the moon about this smart, hilarious, harrowing series. Congrats to genius showrunner @elizaaclarkw, her all-star team of writers, pitch-perfect actors @benschnetzer, @romansash, and the entire amazing cast and crew. #ythelastman #fxonhulu #20yearsinthemaking!

It’s happening! If you know the perfect Erin, Tiffany, Mac or KJ for the upcoming PAPER GIRLS series on Amazon, please have their legal guardian reach out to our brilliant casting directors at the above address (NOT me or other creators of the show/comic via social media, thanks!) 🚲 🚲 🚲 🚲 #papergirls #amazonprime #casting
Thanks for supporting your local comic shop! Safely stocked on their shelves today: PAPER GIRLS – BOOK THREE, our final oversized hardcover collection. This one has some particularly swell extras, including a spotlight on letterer/designer/one of the smartest people in comics Jared K. Fletcher, who finally provides a key to deciphering the seemingly alien language he created for our time travelers. The above 80s set dressing is courtesy co-creator Cliff Chiang, an intimidatingly great gift-giver, as well as the artist of that fabulously foiled cover. Also at your friendly neighborhood comic-book retailer right now: Y THE LAST MAN – COMPENDIUM ONE, a brand-new softcover collection of the entire first half of Y in one handsome and affordable volume, ideal for holiday gifting, etc. How many hidden letter Y’s can you find in the artwork of genius co-creator Pia Guerra? Because I just flipped through and saw one I’d never noticed. Anyway, in that second photo is the actual straitjacket I once used as a subpar teenage escape artist, and as a prop in some dumb short film that my Dad let me shoot in his office in downtown Cleveland. But I accidentally left the straitjacket behind, and the terrified security guard who found it later that night was convinced an escaped mental patient was loose somewhere in the building. I was probably a lot of fun to raise. #papergirls #imagecomics #amazonprimevideo #ythelastman #dccomics #fxonhulu #saintignatiuscircusclub

When visiting Westlake, Ohio, be sure to stop by the Brian K. Vaughan Memorial Museum, where every Battle Beast remains exactly where it stood when the young man left for New York City in 1994 and was never heard from again. #OperationDesertShield #TheShadow #BlessedMother

Happy Friday, scrollers! Recently, legendary comics creator Bob Wiacek (who inked some of my favorite images ever, including the cover to Uncanny X-Men 210, easily the most badass thing my 10-year-old self had ever seen) has been dealing with some costly health issues. Enter editor extraordinaire @sdunbier, who offered to help raise some funds for Bob by auctioning off the only existing script of an unpublished GEN13 Annual by our greatest living writer, Alan Moore (with Mr. Moore’s generous permission, of course). And guess which aging fanboy used some of his ill-gotten Hollywood blood money to acquire this important piece of comics history? The unfinished story (still over 35 pages long!) is a sharp, surreal satire of X-Men, Teen Titans, and the entire industry of that era, and Moore puts more thought into each of his panel descriptions than most of us put into entire series. Anyway, rather than hoarding this lost treasure in my BKVault, I thought I would share it with those of you who are kind enough to donate ANY AMOUNT to Bob Wiacek’s GoFundMe page (link in bio!). Please just forward your donation receipt to this email: ThanksForHelpingBobW at gmail dot com, and my correspondence wiener dog Hamburger K. Vaughan will eventually send you back a private link to a scan of the script for your personal reading pleasure. Thanks so much for whatever you can do to help, and I hope everyone is staying safe and sane out there.
PS – And just to head off the comments, yes, Fiona and I are still hard at work on Saga, and we remain hugely appreciative of the four of you left who haven’t completely lost patience with our extended intermission. Hard to believe as it may seem, I promise these new issues will be worth the wait. #alanmoore #wildstorm #comicbooks
Rest In Peace, John Paul Leon, one of the best comic artists ever.
“It was meant to be a medium for people who haven’t got much money.” – Alan Moore, talking about comic books over at Deadline recently. I have no idea what Mr. Moore would make of THE ONE YOU FEED, a batshit awesome new comic from the all-star team of Donny Cates, Dylan Burnett, Dean White and John J. Hill, but I hope he would approve of some of the biggest names in mainstream comics releasing their work digitally for ANY PRICE READERS THINK IS FAIR. I’m sure these guys could have made a small fortune by crowdfunding this book or releasing through a traditional publisher with a dozen variant covers (no judgment about either perfectly valid option!), but instead, they opted to let readers pay whatever they want through digital comics site @ThePanelSyndicate, which is especially cool of them to do in these difficult times. Artist Marcos Martin and I founded Panel Syndicate (link in bio!) several years ago, but we still don’t take ANY money/rights from other creators’ projects, so every penny you opt to pay goes straight to the writers, artists, colorists and letterers who worked their asses off to make these comics “on spec.” If you love this new series (I guarantee you will) and you can afford to give a few bucks, please do. It’s the only way to guarantee that you’ll see future issues of THE ONE YOU FEED and all of the incredible digital comics we host from the likes of Ed Brubaker, @alexdecampi, @elmonteys, @jay_faerber, and many more. Thanks for letting me plug! Everyone having an okay Wednesday? Have you watched “How To with John Wilson” on HBO yet? It’s pretty wonderful. Okay, back to work on my next script for a certain unnamed comic book. Peace. #panelsyndicate #donnycates #dylanburnett #comics #paywhatyouwant
Happy belated Canada Day/early Independence Day. How good are Steve Skroce, Matt Hollingsworth and the mysterious Fonografiks? Sorry for the wonky cropping; I don’t know how to computer. Anyway, WE STAND ON GUARD, about a totally improbable future where the USA invades Canada, is one of my favorite projects I’ve ever been part of, and you can now read the entire series (and tons of other cool Image Comics) for as little as one measly American dollar. You can even decide where your money goes, including to charities like @thinkingbinc and @heroinitiative. If you’re curious, there’s a link to this “Humble Bundle” in my dumb bio. Thanks. So. How’s everybody holding up? Yeah. Uh-huh. Sorry. Same, pretty much. Well… be good? Bye. #superman #sorrycleveland #thanksfornotsuingusdc

My daughter isn’t even 10 yet but she’s already consumed more graphic novels than I had by the time I was 30. And her first series is still her favorite: Ordinary People Change the World by @bradmeltzer and @chriseliopoulos. She’s been growing up with these books (the Lincoln volume was when we first discussed slavery!), and devoured these two new gems on impact. I command you to buy them both immediately, thanks. Everybody doing okay? Any big plans for the weekend? I’m just writing more Saga so please don’t yell at me.
One of my favorite writers also happens to be my brother, @davidvaughansf (to the left of Spidey), and while you may have read his prose, he’s just written his very first comic, a story featuring his all-time favorite character in next month’s THE IMMORTAL HULK: TIME OF MONSTERS. I’m filled with seething sibling jealousy that David’s first at-bat is a home run, and more importantly, that he got to collaborate with the absolutely incomparable KEVIN NOWLAN. In stores May 19, but you may want to ask your friendly neighborhood comic retailer to set aside a copy for you today, as this one also features all-stars Al Ewing, Alex Paknadel and Juan Ferreyra. Anyway, how’s everyone enduring? Hoping we’re on our way out of this global intermission, so hold fast. (And I’m still working hard on more Saga, just to head off the inevitable petition to please have David replace me.) #marvel #comics #spidermanissomuchbetterthanhulk
If you haven’t read BAD KARMA yet, your New Comic Book Day is set! Four entire issues of this thoughtful thriller are available for instant download at Panel Syndicate, always for whatever price you can afford to pay, including nothing, if times are tough. Alex de Campi is one of my favorite writers, particularly when it comes to male relationships, and she’s ably abetted here by the incredible Ryan Howe and Dee Cunniffe, whose art and colors look even more awesome when you mirror them onto your giant flatscreen. Try that, stapled pieces of paper! (Just kidding, analog comics, we’ll always love you best.) Okay, back to work for this slaphead. Everybody doing okay? Hang in there, we’ll all be drinking together before you know it. #comics #panelsyndicate #slaphead
