16 years ago today I was given permission by the Chinese government to jump over their sacred Wall. The amount of stars that aligned for this to happen still make it seem surreal to me. Jumping the wall was one thing but putting this together was a task that almost seemed impossible, it was pretty much a fantasy when I first came up with the idea. The orchestration of this project was much more complex that the physical achievement itself and I will forever be so proud of pulling this off. 15 years ago on this day the most important boss in skateboarding culture and industry passed away from a sudden heart attack. So much of what we love about the culture of endemic skateboarding was built by #faustovitello ‘s raw no bullshit grassroots attitude and by the brands he founded @thrashermag @independenttrucks @spitfirewheels @slapmagazine @venturetrucks @thundertrucks @realskateboards @anti_hero_skateboards and more.. Fausto and I bonded the second we met and he took me under his wing when I was around 14 years old, he and I had a special relationship that I will forever be grateful for but tremendously miss. Fausto did everything he could to protect the skate industry from being taken over by large corporations, to stop mainstream commercialization and or the over exploitation of our sacred community, his love and passion for skateboarding was the truth and was purely dedicated to keeping it gritty, grassroots and underground . “RIDE THE BEST FUCK THE REST“ RIP Fausto Vitello ♥️🙏🛹
I loved skating for @blindskate !! hanging with @jasonlee and #markgonzales was the best , always having tons of fun and laughing non stop!! These guys are such amazing personalities and skateboarders !! I have some of the funniest legendary stories of Mark and Jason especially around the time period they were both living together. This ad was one more example of the humor these guys led the company marketing with, making fun of the NSA “National Skateboard association ” competitive points standings posted in @transworldskate magazine every year was pretty funny, especially with how serious everyone took it back then 😂 it also doesn’t surprise me one bit Jason became a famous Hollywood actor and Mark an internationally renown / highly respected contemporary artist #tbt #steverocco 🙏
Just pulled together my #MegaRamp board collection. Pretty sure these are in chronological order minus the 2 I have lent to a display. Each of these boards have a career defining story and were retired on the spot once the mission was over and the experiment or challenge was complete. Here is the irony of what these boards represent to me and this is why I saved all of them- believe in yourself, dream big, never except doubt, never adopt anyone else’s negative opinions or perceptions and most importantly never give up!!! Remember we all have the key to unlock the belief system that anything is possible. I truly believe all of us are equal in potential but self doubt is definitely a strong deterrent for most, we are all capable of tapping into the mindset that it takes to see the vision and believe in it so much that nothing can get in our way of accomplishing our mission and or goal.
