Posted @withregram • @kanikachaddagupta @lisaraniray’s “Close to the Bone” is one of the most raw, poignant, heartfelt memoirs I’ve EVER read. 📓
We have loved Lisa as an actress who challenged all things conventional, whether she played a fervent criminal lawyer ⚖️, a young widow⚱️, or a lesbian 🏳️🌈 (on many occasions! I especially loved “I Can’t Think Straight” with the talented @beneaththesheetz ❤️ and @4moreshotspls! 🥃)
But now, we see her come in to her own as an author. She was born to write!!
She bears her soul as she recounts her parents love story 👩🏼❤️💋👨🏾, the highs and lows of the entertainment industry in Bollywood + Hollywood 🎬, her bout with an eating disorder and pulling herself out of it 😔, and her fight with a deadly cancer. 💪 Like the lotus, she comes out of the mud and muck and retains her inner beauty. 🌸
On our podcast, we cover it all, especially her rebirth as a wife and mother of twin girls 👧👧, Sufi and Soleil who she adoringly calls Souffle! 💖 😋

What sort of yoga do YOU do? I get asked…
.
The kind that is quiet and benefits my health and happiness, over the years, in direct proportion to how little I post and speak about it 😉
(Which doesn’t mean I never speak or post about it- but it’s magic powers are slightly diminished when my discretion goes for a toss)
Happiness is…
Experiencing the mystery. And not sharing everything.
Lurking around Boston has never been quite so whimsical nor so much fun.

This #AliceNeel painting is haunting me. Unlikely I could see it at the Met in person, so thanks @noellekadar for bringing it to us, mothers, out here and everywhere.
Posted @withregram • @noellekadar Finally after six weeks, and three failed attempts, I managed to see the Alice Neel show at The Met. Her examination of mothers and children are raw and uncannily accurate (to me). A must visit if you’re able. I will be thinking about some of these paintings forever.
Posted @withregram • @life_coach_bindiya_murgai Don’t believe everything that you think. Treat your mind as a temple, and of thoughts as the people who come there. They will be all kinds, good and bad. They don’t define the temple or change its sacredness.
Thank you @kanikachaddagupta

Posted @withregram • @aratikumarrao Here’s to folks — especially women — who question the way things are, ask the tough questions, challenge status quo, stand up to the old guard, don’t settle for everyday sexism, chauvinism, & patriarchy — for everyone who speaks up.
As #MLK said,

Posted @withregram • @parasmoghtader You are your own healer.
The Âyurveda of you, is the truth that lives inside of you. That wisdom that knows.
AND no matter where you are, it will meet you there… with no judgments, no agenda, no shaming ….ONLY curiosity.
For when curiosity is present, there can not be judgement. They can not co-exist.
That inner wisdom whispers kindly in your ear: “My dear, it is time to heal. Heal the past, forgive, awaken the truth, find yourself in an abundance of material stuff, light and love and joy. All of it.
✨Because that is truly who you are. You are all of it. You are already whole.
✨You are not the blaming + shame.
✨Or the anger.
✨Or the judgment that keeps coming up in your inner voice.
✨Or your ill health. Not even the self doubts.
✨You are only light and wisdom.
And when that day comes when you decide to heal, I will be here to guide you.
Because you are not alone. I have walked the path just a little ahead of you. So have other epic women like my dear friend @lisaraniray (thank you for inspiring me now and always).

.
Raised in Canada by an Indian father and Polish mother, Ray was discovered while on vacation in India and went on to become not only one of the most successful cover models and celebrities in India but also an acclaimed, award-winning actress who starred in Canada’s Oscar nominated film, Water, amongst other prestigious credits. Named one of the ‘Ten most beautiful Indian women of the millenium’ by a Times of India poll 🇮🇳
.
In 2009, Ray attended the Toronto International Film Festival in support of her work in two films. The event marked an important public announcement, in which Ray chose to share her diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma with media and the public. The outpouring of support was immediate and overwhelming. She also started a blog (‘The Yellow Diaries’) to share her cancer experiences. Her forthrightness and humour in navigating a difficult illness have earned her the attention and respect of people from all corners of the world, as well as ‘The Voice Achievers Award, 2009’ and ‘The Hope Award, 2010’. Ray went on to help raise funds for the establishment of the first research chair for Multiple Myeloma at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto. Ray’s philanthropic interests range from taking part in the on-air drive for SickKids Hospital to Ambassador of Plan Canada’s ‘Because I Am A Girl’ campaign, a global movement that supports the rights of girls around the world 👧🏽
.
In 2019, Lisa released her memoirs Close to The Bone. “An unflinching, deeply moving account of her nomadic existence: her entry into the Indian entertainment industry at sixteen; her relationship with her Bengali father and Polish mother; life on the movie sets and her brush with the Oscars; her battle with eating disorders; being diagnosed with multiple myeloma at thirty-seven; her spiritual quest; lovers and traitors, mentors and dream-makers; and the heartaches and triumphs along the way 💕
Posted @withregram • @tishanidoshi I wrote about how sorrow lives in the belly but goes wandering / about whales and grief gates and a suitcase inscribed with the word ‘revelation’ & finding our footholds back into the world: “How do we grieve now that so many of us cannot move? Families are separated, friends live in faraway trenches. Our world has shrunk, and we have accepted this shrinking as a condition for living. The chance to ‘please come flying’ has vanished. Instead, a flurry of death notices arrive like pigeons at our feet, and we have run out of breadcrumbs, of words. We can no longer keep company with our dead. Our grief rituals have been seized. Which boatman is going to take us across the river?”

Posted @withregram • @vajra_wisdom An important point to remember is that whatever information we gather, we also filter, so what we’re left with is a very particular kind of understanding unique to ourselves.
This understanding is not realization. It’s not even an experience. It is like a patch that will eventually fall off. It’s fine to be covered in patches of understanding because sooner or later they are bound to fall off so that experience can be revealed. However, we should also be aware that living with all these patches will prolong the time we spend on the path to enlightenment. How much time do we really have left in this lifetime? Twenty years? Thirty, if we’re lucky? Given that everything we have understood so far is nothing more than a patch that’s holding together our version of samsara, are any of us really willing to spend another ten years believing in that reality? We must, therefore, be prepared to peel off those patches.
But be aware that once the inner skin has been exposed, it’s possible to mistake it for the fruit, which is why we must always be ready to accept that it is just another skin. This is not a principle we apply only to hearing, contemplation, or reading; it’s even more relevant when we meditate. This is what is meant by the Tibetan saying “Experience is like a mist in the morning. It will evaporate.”
