Quintin Jones was executed tonight around 6:40 pm, Texas time. Just before he entered the execution chamber, he called me for the last time. In Quin’s final minutes he told me he was so grateful to everyone who fought so tirelessly on his behalf. It brought him hope til the very end and a measure of peace.
A couple months ago, when I told him someone had offered pro bono legal counsel to help him seek clemency, Quin’s voice broke. He said, “I’m not used to people caring about me.” What everyone has done collectively has helped show him that the hard won transformation he achieved over his last 21 years in prison did not go unnoticed, and that his courage and his vulnerability and his hope, both in life and in death, will not be in vain.
The world is not a better place because Quin is gone, but may his memory expand our capacity for grace and mercy. May it fuel us to fight for a better, more compassionate, more just, more humane world.
In parting, Quin told me he was sad, but he was so grateful that his story had touched those who didn’t even know they needed to be touched. He hopes people will pick up the pebble and throw it into the next pond, and let it ripple out. His last words, to me, to all of us: “Keep doing the good work.”

Sarah Paulson Instagram – This is from the letter attached to the petition @ bit.ly/SaveQuin Quin’s case deserves reconsideration. Family of the victim have forgiven Quin, do not want him to be executed (on May 19th) & claim it will only add to their trauma. Please sign & share. #SaveQuintinJones
@suleikajaouad @mandypatinkin @governorabbott
Time is running out. Respectfully tag @governorabbott and request mercy. Quin is a man that takes full responsibility and has not been violent in 20 years. The victim’s family, also Quin’s family, is fighting for his life. They have forgiven him, love him and feel his death will only further contribute to their trauma.

Sarah Paulson Instagram – It’s this perfect person’s birthday today. Happy birthday to you pal. You are the most wonderful, hilarious, trustworthy human on this earth, and I’m so lucky that you are still my pal after um, 35 years. THIRTY FIVE YEARS. Ok I have to take a nap now. @thecarlagallo I love you to moon and back. (We are so old. How did this happen???)
Sarah Paulson Instagram – I’m just one person in the world, but Quintin Jones, I think you were worth fighting for. My admiration for you will not be dimmed. Rest In Peace. 💔
Sarah Paulson Instagram – PLEASE AMPLIFY EVERYWHERE. Quintin Jones is scheduled to be executed tonight, May 19th, in Texas. We have only hours to try and get Texas Governor Greg Abbott to grant a 30 day Stay of Execution so that Quintin’s legal team can continue the work of trying to save his life.
He, and tens of thousands of people across the country, are pleading for a reduction in his sentence, from death to life in prison. Yesterday the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles voted against granting him this clemency. In 2018, the board recommended such clemency for Thomas Whitaker, a white man, who’s plea for clemency was very similar to Quin’s, who is Black. This raises concerns that the Board’s decision was racially biased, warranting an investigation into their process.
Ways you can help:
Call the Governor’s office and ask he grant the 30 day stay using the numbers at gov.texas.gov/contact
Tag @govabbott and ask he grant the 30 day stay, use the hashtag #savequintinjones

Sarah Paulson Instagram – A group of students at CUNY Law created this fund to provide monetary support to Black 2021 graduates.
CUNY School of Law is a public interest law school, which means that most of if not all of these students will go on to lawyer in the interest of racial justice and social justice.
For people who may not know, only about 5% of lawyers in the U.S. are Black. Structural barriers are in place keep certain people out of the profession. Support funds like this one help to chip away at these types of racial and economic inequalities.
This is also a uniquely challenging time for these students. Their campus community is currently healing from a pattern of anti-Black harm on campus. At the same time, Black members of the campus community are grieving due to the recent racist police killings and because we’re living through a pandemic that has disproportionately impacted and taken the lives of Black people.

We make examples of people all the time. But the greatest example that can be made of Quintin Phillippe Jones is that human beings are capable of redemption and reconciliation, deserving of mercy and grace.
My video interview with Quin and accompanying essay are out on @nytimes. Please share the story & circulate the petition asking @govabbott to grant Quin clemency and convert his sentence from death to life.
Quin is scheduled to be executed on May 19, 2021.
