Sarah Paulson Instagram – A group of students at CUNY Law created this fund to provide monetary support to Black 2021 graduates. CUNY School of Law is a public interest law school, which means that most of if not all of these students will go on to lawyer in the interest of racial justice and social justice. For people who may not know, only about 5% of lawyers in the U.S. are Black. Structural barriers are in place keep certain people out of the profession. Support funds like this one help to chip away at these types of racial and economic inequalities. This is also a uniquely challenging time for these students. Their campus community is currently healing from a pattern of anti-Black harm on campus. At the same time, Black members of the campus community are grieving due to the recent racist police killings and because we’re living through a pandemic that has disproportionately impacted and taken the lives of Black people.
