It’s been a year…
You going away marked a big change in my life. The sorrow of losing loved ones can never go away. The sorrow of losing you made me numb, a part of me is numb and I have to move on carrying the weight of the heavy numbness. But I shall keep moving… the way you did through thick and thin. You were an inspiration, You taught me so much, you taught us all so much. I miss your hands , your sweet loving words. You were the only one who held us like as if we were little children even now… and that feeling will never be felt again. My heart is broken forever. But the love & blessings you gave us will help stay strong and feel loved forever too.

1. Yes… def one of my most embarrassing pictures… but also one of the most loving pictures with my grandmother that I have managed to save.
2. The only Dancing picture of my grand mother I had and now I’m left with a hazy image. But at least I have something.
3. My fav picture of Anndata as Maharani of Rewa.
My Grandmother was my 1st Guru. She taught me to join my hands to the sun every morning, she taught me how to pray and have faith.
Most importantly Data/दाता – As we lovingly called her – helped me find Dance. Her love for dance made me a dancer. As a little kid I danced
In front of her to make her happy… and she’d always be delighted.
It’s because of her that I am so attached to my roots. It’s because of her I have a sense of belonging in this world. She was my hero and will always be. My inspiration.
Thank you for giving me dance in my life Data. Your memories are precious and an integral part of my life.

Nani was my Yog Guru… in fact my entire family has her – Mrs Usha Sharma to thank for bringing Yog into our lives.
I would wake up early morning to catch up with her yoga sessions. She taught me the Gayatri Mantra, made me recite it every morning and evening during my holidays. She taught me the importance of “Om” 🙏🏽
She loved to dance , she loved to play games, she loved sitting with the young ones, she took jokes like a sport, she also won the best business woman award in Jabalpur at one point of time.
Most importantly she taught me how to love and show affection.
Happy Guru Purnima Nani… wherever you are I hope it reaches you.

She is the reason I have any grace in my movements. She was so expressive , so strict , yet so loving. I remember being excited for her class…. My Kathak class. The only learning I looked forward to… was what she taught us. She made me fall in love with ghungroos, tabla , kurtas , tatkaars. She made me fall in love with Kathak. If only I could meet her again and thank her for those 9years. I was young and nothing made more sense to me than my dance class at Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan.
I hope she remembers me.
