Found it fascinating that through the pandemic a lot of us relied on our favorite old albums and songs for comfort . I don’t think I listened to any new music. Facts. As much as the musician and fan in me was interested my heart wasn’t. So I didn’t . Tried a few times . Nah.
didn’t sit well with me. Binged so many new series on Netflix, Hulu, HBO etc. guess those are escapes without the same emotional commitment and investments. After all ,they are actors playing a role. No matter how good they are it’s never lost on us that it’s make believe. Music isn’t make believe. At its best it’s as raw and real as it gets. I guess I always knew this but it took the pandemic for me to truly absorb the power & value of a 40 minute piece of grooved plastic. There’s def some science here.
Certain frequencies , isochronic tones , some waveforms all scientifically proven to help heal but it’s that reassurance of better times, deep memories that heighten the feeling of being alive. Protects our souls. Heals our hearts . What a fantastic drug. I’m writing this @5:45 am so won’t get too heavy but… damn. Thank you Jeff Buckley. Thank you Nick Cave. Songs are stunning. His lyrics . Piano playing etc….Covid does have its silver linings. Weaves through the heartache. The stress. The loss. Family time. discovering parts of us we didn’t know fully existed . creativity resurfacing after being disconnected for years. who knows where it ends but these moments get me/us through. It’s beautiful & humbling to see so many people back to work on the set of this @ourladypeace video. Creating, collaborating sharing ideas, sharing esthetics. This drug doesn’t work virtually. We did our best the past 16 months but this was a reminder of the humanness of art. The insight into our souls. The meditation of creating and how it connects us. Process isn’t beautiful. Ugly. Unromantic. dirty. Experimenting , failing , feeling worthless, lonely, but suddenly tapping into something inspired deep in the process. Those moments are art. imo. A piece of clay won’t turn into a beautiful sculpture on its own. can’t will it’s form. gotta get in there & mold it. Break it down .
