”We kids most often don’t do what you tell us to do. We do as you do. And since you grown-ups don’t give a damn about my future, I won’t either. My name is Greta and I’m in ninth grade. And I am school striking for the climate until election day.”
This is what I wrote exactly 3 years ago – August 20th 2018 – during the first day of the school strike. 3 years later I am still here, but alongside millions from all over the world.
Since the first school strike the world has emitted over 120 billion tonnes of CO2. The changes necessary are still nowhere in sight. The climate crisis has still never once been treated as a crisis. But people are waking up and demanding climate justice. And we will always continue the fight for our future and present. We simply have no other choice. #FridaysForFuture Parliament House, Stockholm

“Brazil sure did not start this crisis, but your leaders are adding a lot of fuel to the fire. Just because the leaders of the global north have failed – and yes, failing they are – that is no excuse for Brazil not to take a different path.”
Yesterday @sam_sateremawe and I spoke in the Brazilian senate.

What a day! Yesterday we took it to the streets again, all over the world! It is impossible to describe how hopeful it makes me to see that people’s engagement and dedication hasn’t disappeared, rather the opposite. People are ready for change. People are demanding change. Another world is possible!

Thank you to everyone in Fridays For Future Sweden @fridaysforfuture.swe (also those of you who are not in this picture) for always being so amazing. You are the most inclusive, kind and funny people I know! Being an activist is not just work, it’s also moose, baby carrots and frogs.🥕🥕🥕

“UN says global carbon emissions set to rise 16 per cent by 2030” (link in bio)
This is what betrayal looks like. Whatever our so-called “leaders” are doing, they are doing it wrong.
See you on the streets on the global climate strike next Friday September 24th.

I – along with others – am speaking at Climate Live in Stockholm on October 16th.
Climate Live is a series of grassroots concerts for climate justice organised by young activists, which takes place simultaneously all over the world. The concerts aim to use music to engage, educate and empower a new audience to put pressure on world leaders to act against the climate crisis. Find out more at climatelive.se and climatelive.org

This basically sums up our current situation. The “code red” IPCC report came out a week ago. Since then not one politician has been held accountable. Not one politician has been asked how they are going to act in line with this. Our emissions aren’t falling, they are rapidly rising. The climate crisis is still seen as an isolated “topic” and not as a symptom of a much larger sustainability crisis.
As long as we continue to ignore the actual content and the root causes of the climate crisis we will not be able to avoid the worst consequences. And by doing so we are giving a death sentence to countless of people, especially in the most affected ares.
But remember; as soon as we decide to treat the climate crisis like a crisis – everything can change overnight. We can still make the seemingly impossible possible. #UprootTheSystem

From the 30th September to the 1st October, Italy will host the Youth COP and the Pre-COP in Milan, where young people as well as climate and energy ministers from a selected group of countries will discuss some crucial political aspects of the COP26 negotiations.
This is only one of a long series of meetings, negotiations, and conferences that will only be meaningless talks if our leaders don’t begin to treat the climate crisis like a crisis.
For this reason, on Friday 1st October 2021 I will join the student strike in Milan with local and international activists.
We will demand a real system change based on climate justice, which is the only way to stop the climate emergency. And we will make sure our leaders understand that #anotherworldisnecessary.
