Milla Jovovich Instagram – So here we are. In a literal time warp taking us backwards. Texas has fundamentally blocked abortion access, by deputizing citizens to sue individuals seeking abortion, people “abetting” them (as in friends driving them to and from the clinic) and providers i.e. doctors and clinics. This law will of course adversely affect all women living in Texas, but overwhelmingly women who live below the poverty line and anyone who helps them, women who have been raped and anyone who helps them, children who have been victims of both rape and incest (the new Texas Law doesn’t care if the pregnancy is from rape or incest). It goes into effect when a heartbeat is detected at 6 weeks, a point where most women don’t even realize they are pregnant. This is dark. It’s unimaginable in civilized nations. Texas will be seeing a lot of unwanted babies being born soon. It will be seeing a lot of child abuse by parents who never wanted children or were too young to have children. It’s heartbreaking that babies will be born into households where they are unwanted and won’t be given the love and care that they deserve. It’s cruel and unusual. It’s truly ironic that in a country that counts personal freedom so highly, this could happen. It’s also ironic that some states in this country care so much about the rights of unborn fetuses, but once the babies are born, their mothers and fathers get no paid leave by these same states to take care of said babies or to bond with said babies.
