On this day 5 years ago, Madame Tussauds’ Selena Wax figure was unveiled for the world to see. Since then, hundreds of thousands of Selena’s fans have traveled to Hollywood, California to see this beautiful figure up close and personal. It was this week 27 years ago Selena y Los Dinos were excited and honored to play at the prestigious Universal Amphitheater in California. An arena host to musical artists such as Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Luis Miguel, Pepe Aguilar, Madonna, Gloria Trevi, Cher and Janet Jackson to name a few.
Bringing Tejano music to a much broader audience, this is what Selena had to say about its popularity, “It’s the younger generation, they’re proud of their roots. Latinos are more visible. It’s cool to speak Spanish. In Mexico, they love the Tejano sound. Fans even welcome you at the airport.”
