Kidding aside! However, many hearing people have assumed and asked if our house is quiet… hahahaha! Not even close. Just because we’re Deaf does not make us silent at all. We stomp the floors, bang on the table, yell, slam the toilet seat, and so much more. This video shows how it is not a quiet place but a loud house! 😂🤣

Let’s start with some interesting facts… Only Deaf people can give name signs to others. A name sign is something about the individual – be it their personality, appearance, or something truly unique. One thing Deaf people wish hearing people knew is to not ask for a name sign given that it is a special gift.

When I was four attending an all Deaf school in Austin, Texas to now, a 12 year old homeschooled student. From wearing dresses every day to now, not wearing a dress at all. My hair is still wild. I 💗science, English, and watching documentaries. I loathe math, social studies, and PE. My mom reminds me that knowledge is power, but even more powerful when we don’t take everything as a fact or the truth for there is always more than one side to each story.

Truth bomb: There has been talks of a Deaf cure for many centuries. Before we talk about a Deaf cure, what if there were no Deaf people? There would be no sign language, captioning for everyone, NASA human flight program, baseball hand signals, and so on. The interesting thing is that Deaf people aren’t being recognized for their contributions to the world.
Sadly, Deaf babies and children aren’t encouraged to learn sign language. Deaf people are still asking people to caption their content. A Deaf person hasn’t been in space yet. When will hearing people stop talking about a Deaf cure and appreciate the existence of Deaf people? End rant.

Almost every single time a hearing person meets a Deaf person for the first time, the hearing person unintentionally asks the Deaf person a billion questions about what it’s like to be Deaf. Usually, it starts with questions regarding if they can hear, talk, or wear some hearing devices. All about their hearing “abilities”when Deaf people are so much more than just that.
What some hearing people forget to ask is about the Deaf person’s likes, dislikes, dreams, fears, family, and many more. This video is a reminder that Deaf people are very much like you… invite them to chat about all kinds of topics! 😊

Believe it or not, all of these comments still happen today. To not be difficult and to fit in. Some days, people are shocked that Deaf people are so smart. Other days, we are seen as deaf and dumb. Hearing people continue to think they know what is best for the Deaf person. It just doesn’t stop.
