I won this role (after many, many other actors passed on it) right after my first TV show was cancelled. Job of a lifetime, 6 months of bliss in Mexico with swords and horses and blonde extensions. Antonio is literally one of the kindest, hardest working actors I’ve ever met. But the long reach of playing sociopaths like this still haunts me to this day with the occasional “Man, I hated you SO MUCH.” Really good movie, if you haven’t seen it. Everyone knows what a terrible instagrammer I’ve been. It’s all anyone is talking about. But #stayinghome gives me a little time to catch up on some long delayed posts. I’ll start with this muddled freeze frame from my very first job in LA: a guest spot on Saved By The Bell: The College Years. This smash hit prime time extension of the daytime darling #savedbythebell ran for a now unthinkable 13 episodes. It also kicked off my long run of playing characters you’d like to punch in the face. I brought to life Rick Larson, the fraternity president who wouldn’t let Booger-I mean, Screech, into the the most popular frat on whatever mythical campus we were on. Shockingly, there has been zero talk of reprising the role in the upcoming reboot, but I’m sure that has as much to do with finding this sweater in today’s world as anything else. PS This was my first job and truthfully, @mpgosselaar and @mariolopez and @tiffanithiessen et al were unbelievably nice. #ricklarson #thericker #savedbythebell

Next up in the #StayingHome series of punchable faces: I played the brother to Ellen Degeneres on ELLEN. Don’t think this was so much a #PunchableFace™️ role so much as it was a #ExtremelyForgettable™️ one (another specialty!) One episode, centered around his wedding. And I think she called him on the phone in the episode where she came out. So, once again, very adjacent to history being made!(VeryAdjacent: A life in Shobiz by Matt Letscher. ) Couple things: this is 1994 and props to me on going for the full on “late stage Kevin Costner “ look. Pleated khakis pulled a touch too high and sport coat a couple sizes too large. Sexy. Second, Ellen was a real treat to work with. She took us all out for drinks on show night and as I was leaving gave me a kiss and said “we’ll have you back lots and lots.” Again, one episode. But even funnier, I honestly thought for a second, in a moment of stunning misperception “Ellen might be a little into me.” So maybe my patented mix of #ExtremeWhiteness™️ and #HeteroTunnelVision™️ make this a #PunchableFace after all! #comedy #shobiz #lotsandlots #stayinghome

#StayingHome series of #PunchableFaces continued: This is not a punchable face. This is a promo still from my first series regular job, a sitcom called Almost Perfect, starring Nancy Travis. In what was an obvious stretch for me, I played Rob Paley, a naive kid from the Midwest who struggles to navigate the fast pace of life as a tv writer in LA. That basically describes the last 25 years of my life. Not punchable, but I loved this cast and this show and having a job and I’ll never forget driving onto the Paramount lot every day for work. As a good friend once said to me “You really got hit with the lucky stick.” I could mutter something about hard work here, but why. The truth is I got slapped silly with the lucky stick (lotsa violent imagery today, someone must be feeling cooped up!) Too many people to thank. Too few pictures to fully illuminate the wide-ranging gifts and unflagging grit of this crew. Navigating the pandemic was interesting on a film set. It completely changed the way we communicated and interacted. It dragged out the process. A stoppage was always around the corner. Not to mention all the personal loss. A time of tremendous shared pain. But having the outlying goal of finishing what we started felt very important to me. And I’m deeply grateful to the people on both sides of the call sheet who were there every day, all day, landing this #Narcos plane. 🙏🙏🙏 #narcosmexico #setlife #netflix
