As a mom, I am always looking for products that are safe, mean no harm to the environment and are made from a mother’s perspective. I especially look for toys that involve more play! We seem to have taken the real fun out of children’s toys, making most of them primarily educational and flooded our homes with plastic 🤯

MY LIFE, MY STYLE [Part 1]: Actor Dia Mirza’s home in Mumbai is a sanctuary of sustainability.
Excerpts from the feature:
“‘Dia’s childhood was spent in Banjara Hills in Hyderabad, that presented her with an “incredible expanse of nature”… “I have vivid memories of sitting on the ground with my hands soiled, planting saplings with my mother…and the joy of watering plants, especially getting wet on a hot, sweltering day!” she smiles. Dia’s apartment in Mumbai abounds with oxygenating plants like money plants, mother-in-law’s tongues, and arrowheads. “I have almost 25 species of birds visiting my window every day,” Dia tells us. “I’ve had red-vented bulbuls, sparrows, coppersmith barbets, and sunbirds building nests in the windows and foliage… It’s magical to hear the bird song through the day;you feel transported from the big metropolis to a lush forest…”’

I walked for the absolutely wonderful @abrahamandthakore who created the collection – Assemble. Disassemble. Reassemble – a collection made with fabrics that are made from *100% recycled post consumer PET bottles* . The fabric is called – * R|Elan Greengold* and is a fabric of the future.
The collection has been inspired by the disassembling and reassembling of materials (similar to that of a process of how a waste PET bottle is disassembled to create fabric) . It takes a look at the traditional methods of recycling and upcycling of textiles that are a part of our common textile heritage. Techniques such as patchwork, hand stitching and applique form some of the basic elements of the collection. The repurposing of fabric offcuts (my outfit was made entirely by repurposing off cuts 😍) helps create a garment with a unique narrative. The collection consists of silhouettes that are versatile and timeless. There is a small selection of evening wear, hand embroidered with sequins made from sheets of discarded PET materials and x-ray sheets. Glamour out of waste. An stunning example of creating a #CircularEconomy.

Swati Thiyagarajan is a conservation journalist and filmmaker who helmed her own show Born Wild on NDTV. She was the Environment Editor at NDTV and is now the consulting Environment Editor for their special campaigns and projects. She has authored the book Born Wild: Journeys into the wilds of India and Africa and is the Associate Producer of the Oscar winner My Octopus Teacher. Her film The Animal Communicator is on Amazon Prime US. At present she consults at the Seachange Project an NPO based in Cape Town, working on the long term conservation of the Great African Seaforest. Swati believes that we as humans must remember that we are all Born Wild and as the human animal must learn to share spaces with fellow non human animal and reforge a new and deep connection with nature 🍃
