Every time I travel, I love to understand and experience the culture of that place in whatever way I can. When I was in Zanzibar, I wanted to experience a bit of their culture in some way. While I was admiring how beautiful Rachel was (the owner of the resort I stayed in before I left) she looked at my long hair and offered to do the ‘corn rows’ on them. I jumped at that offer as I had always wanted to do it. Corn rows are very rooted in African history and date far back to 3000 B.C. In Africa, braids were a way to show people who you were. They signified your tribe, your marital status, your wealth, religion, and more. It is not just a hairstyle, it’s a LOT more than that. While the plaits were getting done we exchanged stories about own countries and cultures. So much understanding, learning and mutual respect for the other culture happened during that time. A big thanks to Rachel for giving me this experience. I loved it!

The last week has been one of the best weeks of my life. It’s impossible to put down in words how it felt to marry the man I love in front of everybody I’ve known and loved in my life. I will write more about this week and put up more pictures but for now, I just want to put up this moment. Talk about this moment. This moment that I will be reliving every day of my life henceforth.
The moment where I sat on my amma’s lap when he tied the thaali. YES. AMMA madi. This meant the world to me. This moment made everything worth it. It made me tear up. It made me happy. That smile on her face. That happiness. I am just grateful both Amma and I got to live this moment in our lives. So so thankful to everyone who made this happen. I don’t know if we will have anything in our lives that will be more special than this. Just our faces in these pictures says it all! Love. Gratitude. Today was temple visit day. I wanted to wear something new for it but also wanted it to be comfortable. Chose this lovely saree called ‘Kaatril’ made by @rasaalidesigns for it. It’s Khadi cotton. Made from handspun cotton by weavers. Loved it! Last few months I’ve been particularly trying to pick sarees that are not machine made, that are handloom, direct from the weavers. This one fit right in and I absolutely enjoyed wearing it. Kudos to brands like @rasaalidesigns who focus on getting hand woven sarees to customers! Huge thumbs up!

Got introduced to a new sport today! Watched the grand finals of the Australian Football League (Pretty much the Superbowl of Australia) at the screening (so well organised) by @aushcindia. It was a game between The Richmond Tigers (Who won the title this year) and Great Western Sydney Giants. I must say, once you understand the rules, the game is super addictive to watch. It’s also one of the most difficult sports as it has the biggest field in any sport ever. Always fun to learn a new sport. Looking forward to watching more games.
