On 4th Nov 2021, I was invited by @poulomipavinishukla & @weakestonearth1 to spend my #diwaliwithorphans as part of an awareness drive that endeavours to draw attention to India’s orphan crisis. The visit impressed upon me the urgent need to have the issue of India’s 29.6 million orphans widely discussed as part of our public discourse. We MUST as a society do more for our orphan children.
Contact [email protected] to know more.. Delhi
There are more than 2.9 crore orphan children in India (29.6 million) according to UNICEF. 4% of India’s children are orphans. Less than 5 lakh of them are in any orphanage in the country.
In an endeavour to raise awareness about the Orphan crisis in our country, this Diwali we invite you to spend #DiwaliWithOrphans ..
Visit an orpahange in your city, celebrate Diwali with the children and understand their experience. Share a picture with the #DiwaliWithOrphans and #WeakestOnEarth and tell us what you learnt.

On 4th nov 2021 (Diwali day) I visited an orphanage in Delhi, to learn and understand the reality of the orphan crisis in India. This is what I learnt:
-As per UNICEF data, there are more than 2.9 crore (29.6 million) orphan children in India.
– Only 5 lakh of these are in orphanages across the country.
-As per the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 when orphans staying in govt. run orphanages turn 18 years of age; they must leave the orphanages. Where do these 18 year old children go???
-The orphan crisis is India’s least talked about crisis. We as a society MUST do more. This festive season open your hearts to India’s orphans. Start by becoming aware.
