Since my teens I have watched Sar’s movies like the many thousands of Indians worldwide. On the cinema screens with live roars to the house TV with Amma-Appa, I have enjoyed his style, energy, heroism and smile.
I was in Chennai this January to watch Darbar and asked Anirudh’s team if it was possible to meet meet Sar. I’ve rapped in 3 of his films but never asked to meet him previously. It was a long shot but I decided to try my luck . So blessed that Sar agreed to grant me a meeting.
He walked in like your simple neighbour uncle but after he sat down he had an aura of a humble ⛰ mountain. Like a king on a throne. He thanked me for rapping on his movies and my heart was filled with a childlike joy. We spoke for a bit, about Darbar and some life experiences. Still awestruck, Nithya and me we holding our screams in 🤯

#TBT #ThrowbackThursday circa 2000. Technically, its the 20th anniversary of #PoeticAmmo’s sophomore LP “The World Is Yours”.
Personally, I liked this album for its visual appeal. Winning the AIM 2000 award for “Best Album Cover” as Creative Director was one of my past personal achievements that I still hold dear. And obviously, the artwork of Uncle Real was way ahead of its time.
In a time when local #hiphop album art were “expected” to be the cliche bad ass urban cool looking photography template, I decided to follow our passion of all things pop culture ( before the term was invented) then and translated it visually as our album artwork.
The result was ( most likely) the first #comicbook, #manga, #anime, #Scifi and #PopCulture inspired #Malaysian album cover back in the year 2000.
Flash forward to the present, the term pop culture, anime, manga, sci fi, superheroes, etc are the staple and norm of most of your entertainment, besides being billion dollar industries.
Oh did I mention, there was a mini flash based video game embedded within the CD as well? Haha good times!
