Karthik Kumar Instagram - The wedding We insisted, argued, debated and convinced everyone, including ourselves that our wedding rituals would be those we invented, under a faith that we believe in ourselves, and not one that we need to inherit and transmit; and at a venue (home terrace) that means something to us and maybe only us. We invented a ceremony filled with love and wishes from the family-friends and made our parents the chief guests at our wedding. It was our wedding after all. We exchanged whatever we exchanged equally : I didn’t take her, and she didn’t take me : we had each other and this merely shared that everyday truth to all. Karthik Kumar Instagram - I have never been my ideal weight. Even when I was at my ideal weight, I certainly didn’t think so. A wedding pending and the inhibition was that I may feel ‘uncomfortable’ and ‘ungainly’ on my special day. The pressure was on… draining out the pleasure of the prep. Diet plans. Exercise regimes. Random advise. Snide well meaning jibes from ‘friends’. None of it helped : surprise surprise! What helped? To be seen by the bride for who I am. Coz even in the weight correction panic I mostly forgot who I was ‘without my weight issue’. My person saw me for who I am and that kinda reminded me that - wait a minute - I am that person she is seeing and experiencing for real- and then I saw it. Thank you @amruthasrini I didn’t feel heavy nor light at my wedding. I felt like me. Karthik Kumar Instagram - I don’t dance. I, in fact, resist it, like a child would a dentist. I dance with @amruthasrini … because when I dance with her I feel light, silly, strong and I play. And then I figured dance is but one form of play. And in fact most things we fear in life or consider as important- are actually opportunities to play. Here’s us dancing as if no one is watching, at our own wedding party.
