Not a surprise to us who’d worked on it with the great @jessicachastain , @barbaramus and off course the director @andy_muschietti . He is absolutely brilliant. On 9/11 2001 I arrived at Copenhagen airport, jumped in a cab. The radio was on, for a second I thought it was some radio drama that was on. But it was real. My wife was in Greenland where local radio announced that World war 3 had broken out. Thankfully it hadn’t. Although our world was changed forever. 20 years on the consequences of that horrific attack are felt every day all over the world. Our history is important and too often we keep repeating the mistakes of the past.
I grew up in a tiny farming village in Denmark and spent most of my childhood exploring fields and forests – something I still love doing to this day with Nukaka and our daughters.
Did you know that forests are home to 80% of all terrestrial animals and plants. The ecosystems they sustain are essential to global biodiversity, human livelihoods and the broader needs of societies and economies globally. Forests absorb nearly one-third of all CO2 released from burning fossil fuels every year. Forest restoration could remove another 26 gigatons of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.
But the economic effects of COVID-19 threaten both forest livelihoods and the incentives for the conservation of these ecosystems. In the past five decades, wildlife populations have on average declined by nearly 70%. Human demand for #wildlife products such as elephant ivory, rhino horn and marine turtle shell is driving many species to extinction.
But there is a solution. UNDP initiative @TheLionsShare is helping protect nature by proactively supporting #wildlife rangers and guardians across Asia, Africa and Latin America.
