From @sidilarbicherkaoui’s Mea Culpa. This was the last time I was on stage-November 2019. I miss connecting with people and to my body. But I don’t miss the daily life of being a dancer. Still looking for a balance.
Tonight I got choked up. I didn’t expect this jaded ex-dancer to get emotional, but as I watched my daughter during her first time on stage from the wings during her dress rehearsal, I had to fight tears. Seeing these little ballerina hopefuls, bursting with potential and possibility(and privilege) was so inspiring, and it was equally sad…as I’m realizing a part of me has essentially died. (Not trying to be melodramatic)It was also my first time back in a theater in a year and a half. A theater I performed at as a child as well. It was home. But it’s not my life anymore. I’m hobbling down the backstage hallway asking other moms for Advil, not even able to get out of a chair without the reminder of my newly operated hip, still foreign. It was a real full circle moment. So strange. I don’t miss dancing, but there’s a hole where dancing used to be…it brought a grief I can’t quite describe. I feel like an old lady in a rocking chair, pondering my youth…but at 36. What a life! (I hope Josephine chooses tennis😂)
