We had an outstanding Christmas Eve meal @nimmyscooking charming home in Kochi. I can’t even begin to describe the culinary expedition our tongues have been on. Nimmie is a renowned and respected master of Syrian Christian Keralite cuisine, as well as a cooking teacher and booking a meal with her is a must when visiting Kochi.
Thanks @maneesha_panicker @silkrouteescapes for making this happen.
(I was too preoccupied consuming each course to take photographic evidence- and this is the greatest testament of a satisfying meal)

When the world shuts down, we turn to art to open us up.

I always reach for stories about blended blood. Not only because of my own mixed identity but for the potency of observation and perspective that individuals who fit in neither here nor there carry. Aftershocks is more layered than a personal history, blending in as it does political history from Ghana, Armenia, Uganda and the many locations that Nadia, child of a UN employee, current New Yorker, has experienced. The topography she covers is sharp, covering mental illness, abandonment and family secrets, but with hope and illumination chasing the shadows of her lived experiences.
What a memoir.
