We said goodbye to Perdita this weekend, my beloved companion for 13 years. Cancer took her far too young, but we will always treasure the time we had and what a loving and snuggly cat she was. Her favorite place in the world was in one of our laps. We were as obsessed with her as she was with us, and our hearts are as full as they are broken.

Apparently we don’t just wear sweatpants anymore.
The best year? No, certainly not. But I survived another trip around the sun in the face of some dark stuff. You did too, but this is my birthday, and a post about me. Well maybe it’s about all of us. It was a hard year but there was good in it, too. Right now I’m grateful for vaccines, this new haircut I’m totally vibing, and my friends for being out of town and giving me access to their rooftop deck😉 And my partner beside me who took pics while I pretended not to notice. #HappyBirthdaytoMe

First haircut in quite a while. Also: Hi. I am still here. Glad you are too.

To hell with any traditional top nine in 2020. These nine are my attempt to make a little time capsule of the year. A year that contained so much and so little. Also I read 60 books. Look at them.

May your day be merry and bright
In a year when books became my refuge, I can think of no better way to end 2021 than by reflecting on what I read. I read 110 books this year, many of them truly great, but I only added books to this list when they really blew me away in some way. Some are joyful and full of love, some are heartbreaking, and some really changed how I see the world. All of them kept me company during a hard year, and for that, I’m very grateful. And a big shoutout to libraries for making this possible📚 P.S. What should I add to my already impossibly long TBR list for next year?
When I first saw this illustration by @samwedelich a few months ago, it was exactly what I needed to hear. I was in the cave. I took a screenshot and I’ve revisited the art many times. Finally I decided to reach out and ask if I could buy a print, and now I’m so happy my little redheaded friend is on the wall to remind me. Keep going.
