Sign the petition at the link in our bio to stop the deadly use of driftnets. California banned driftnet fishing in state waters, but it continues in federal waters. The nets, used to catch swordfish, are miles long and hundreds of feet deep and they ensnare and kill everything in their path. The bycatch rate is astronomical – for every swordfish caught in these nets, as many as seven other marine animals may become collateral damage. In 2020, both houses in the United States Congress passed a bill to ban the practice in federal waters, but Trump vetoed the bill. It has now been reintroduced and is being considered in the United States Senate and House. Please join us and demand that California put an end to driftnets.
