Minneapolis audiences were always incredible because they got to witness the rise of the brilliant comedian Louie Anderson. A hilarious storyteller and wonderful comic actor and one of the greats of his generation, when you made him laugh it felt very special. Louie was a kind and generous person to ALL of us.

Simply stated, there is no Actor that ever lived that had more of an impact on society for breaking barriers, opening doors and not just asking for equality but demanding it by the very nature of his dignity, his grace, intelligence and sheer talent.
Sidney Poitier was a giant.
Mr. Poitier brought honor to our profession that seldom deserves it. A shining light exemplifying the highest potential that art can bring: changing hearts and minds by exposing the evils of prejudice and hate, giving society an example of a better way to treat ALL human beings with the dignity, respect and love that all human beings deserve. Never expressing bitterness for the trials he surely faced, Poitier triumphed and rose above it and helped all of us to rise up with him.

Mort Sahl, The last of the Founding Fathers of stand up comedy has left the stage. A true giant who literally invented modern political satire.
ALL, not some, but ALL modern political stand up comics, knowingly or not, are direct comedic descendants of the incomparable Mort Sahl.
Meeting Mr. Sahl was meeting true comedy royalty. He would hate that description, because he hated elitism in any form. He didn’t deny that there was greatness in individual achievements, but the idea that any man was “better” or “more important” was an anathema to Mr. Sahl. Mort truly was the champion of the average hard working American. Sahl never talked down to his audience but treated us all as equals: equally appalled at the political farce that enfolded before his eyes. As Mort continued to perform shows every Thursday in Northern California until he passed, he found the political buffoonery just as ridiculously humorous in 2021 as he found during the Nixon/Kennedy debates in 1960. A contemporary and friend to Lenny Bruce and my dear friend Dick Gregory, Mort Saul is the last of his era of what defined and still defines what we call Stand Up Comedy.
