Someone sent me message asking me what 10 things have I accomplished in my life that I am most proud of.
Giving it a little thought, I decided that these are the 10 things I am most proud of, counting down from 10 to 1.
10. Invading the Soviet Union to collect evidence of illegal whaling in 1981.
9. Hunting down, ramming and sinking the outlaw pirate whaler Sierra in 1979.
8. Stopping drift net poachers in the North Pacific and the Caribbean in 1991 and 1992.
7. Working with the Galapagos National Park to stop poachers in the Galapagos Marine Reserve. 1999 – 2022
6. Serving as a volunteer medic for the American Indian Movement occupation of Wounded Knee in 1973.
5. Freeing 800 Bluefin tuna from the nets of a Maltese poacher in the waters off Libya in 2011.
4. Physically opposing Canadian and Norwegian seal hunting and helping to stop the trade of seal products in Europe 1979 – 2008.
3. Leading 9 campaigns to defend whales in the waters of the Southern Ocean around Antarctica. 2002 -2013 and Driving the Japanese whale poachers out of the Southern Ocean and preventing the slaughter of over 6,500 whales. 2002 – 2013
2. Founding the international marine conservation movement Sea Shepherd in 1979, a movement that has saved many hundreds of thousands of lives at sea including whales, dolphins, sharks, turtles, fish, invertebrates and sea-birds.
