But when it comes to Lisa’s memoir, no matter how much I try, she sweeps me off my feet with her words. I forget my research objectives, aims and questions. I start reading the memoir again like it’s my first time. This is my 7th reading. My job is to do research on her memoir, write papers, incorporate theories, look at it through the lens of medical humanities etc. But Lisa makes me feel like I am in the book, in her story. Her story has many messages about life itself and many meaningful questions for the reader to ask themselves. The reading experience has been agonizing and exhilarating at the same time. Above everything else, it is a loud reminder to live life in its totality. And while living in the world, not to be of it. May we all have the ability to rise from the mud, bloom out of the darkness and radiate into the world.
