Selena recorded the song in 1989 and in 1991, performed the song at the Tejano Music Awards. The studio track was posthumously released on the soundtrack album for the 1997 film “Selena” and later was included as a bonus track on the “20 Years of Music” version of Selena’s 1992 album “Entre a Mi Mundo”, released in 2002.

“A Boy Like That” was one of Selena’s last recordings in a joint project with the @recordingacademy foundation. Originally performed by Rita Moreno in the original film, “The Songs of West Side Story” album was produced by David Pack in 1995. He remembers having his first conversation with Selena, “A Boy Like That” was one of the shortest songs of the original score, and it was particularly difficult to expand and contemporize. After my first two-hour phone call with Selena, her spirit crystallized the direction of the new “Jack/Latin Vibe” which she loved and after the recording sessions, we talked about this being one of the cool little tunes of the project.” Selena’s version featured the legendary Sheila E on percussions.
Enjoy this Tony Moran Extended Club remix which became a “Billboard HOT Dance Breakout” track in March 1996.
