What better way to kick off Womenβs History Month than with soon to be Supreme Court Justice, Judge KETANJI Brown Jackson. The daughter of HBCU graduates and a product of Miami Dade public schools. Eminently qualified not only on paper, but moreover by a diverse lived experience and a rounded legal experience. The first public defender to serve on the high court when confirmed. The battle for the Courts is critical to gaining true justice in America. Congrats, Madame βJusticeπ€πΎβ #Crib #305
Today Iβm taking a second to appreciate Delaware Senator @marie4senate for #womenshistorymonth . Senator Pinkney was raised by her great aunt in Wilmington and New Castle, Pinkney graduated from Howard High School of Technology. She earned her bachelorβs degree in social work from Norfolk State University and a masterβs degree in social work from Delaware State University. A member of @nbjconthemove Good Trouble Network Steering Committee, Senator Pinkney became the first African American LGBTQ+ person ever elected to the Delaware Senate in 2020. She is dedicated to fighting the negative impacts of racial and socioeconomic inequalities, as well as the stigmas and hurdles faced by formerly justice-involved individuals and those with limited educational backgrounds. Stay tuned for more incredible public servants throughout the month!
Todayβs #womenshistorymonth spotlight goes to California legislator Lauren Buisson. Lauren is in her second term as the District 5 Representative on the Echo Park Neighborhood Council (EPNC). Active in EPNC’s Homelessness & Housing Committee, Lauren most recently organized and moderated the “Tenants’ Rights in the Time of Covid” panel. Prior to the pandemic, Lauren supervised the hot meal service, and sourced donations for the auxiliary services of Echo Park’s weekly mobile shower program.
A steering committee member of @nbjconthemove Good Trouble Network, Lauren spends her free time mentoring at-risk LGBTQ+/SGL youth in the foster care system.
This Sunday Iβm proud to highlight Nevada Senator @dallasharrisnv for our #womenshistorymonth series. A Nevada native, Dallas has been instrumental in adding more limits on police use of deadly force and requiring additional record keeping on hate crimes during her time in the Nevada Legislature.
Thank you for your service, Senator. Know that we have your back through the thick and thin βπΎ
Please meet Georgia Senator @kimforgeorgia. A member of @nbjconthemove Good Trouble Network, Senator Jackson is todayβs #womenshistorymonth feature.
βUpon receiving her Master of Divinity degree, Jackson began her vocation as an Episcopal priest. During ten years of ministry, she served as a college chaplain, a nationally renowned consultant and preacher, a parish priest, and a social justice advocate.
Now serving as the Vicar at the Episcopal Church of the Common Ground, Jackson co-creates Church with people who are unhoused in downtown Atlanta. She and her spouse, Trina, live on a small hobby farm in Stone Mountain with two Great Pyrenees dogs, goats, bees, ducks, chickens and a cat.
With #dontsaygay being introduced in the Georgia Legislature, Senator Jackson stands on the front lines of protecting our LGBTQ+/SGL brothers and sisters.
This #womenhistorymonth I want to shout out some of the brilliant women who you might not have heard of YET, but are making lasting impacts on their communities and this country. Today, Iβd like to introduce you to Santa Clara County Open Space Authority Board member @shayfrancoclausen
Shay hails from the Bay area and has been a tireless advocate for marginalized communities and for adding more women into politics. Additionally, she is Co-Chairing a new project by the @nbjconthemove called the Good Trouble Network, which aims to form a network of Black Queer elected officials around the country committed to liberation and freedom for all.
Sheβs a force of nature (the environmentally friendly kind π)
Today we’re spotlighting Toledo School Board Member @sheena_for_the_future for our #womenshistorymonth series. Sheena is an at-large member of the Toledo Public Schools Board of Education in Ohio. Sheena is also a member of @nbjconthemove Good Trouble Network Steering Committee. A true leader through and through!
Florida exports its bad ideas everywhere. Grateful to have leaders like @shevrinjones standing on the front lines as we fight for what we know is right. The work continues. Show link in bio.
Todayβs #womenshistorymonth & #internationalwomensday appreciation post goes out to Minneapolis Council President @shesgotgame1!
A member of @nbjconthemove Good Trouble Network, Andrea made history in 2017 as the first African American openly transwoman to be elected to public office in the United States. Along with Andreaβs public service, she is also a writer, performance artist, poet and transgender activist.
A true trailblazer and leader who is shaping the future of this nation. Hereβs to you, Andrea β€οΈ
Todayβs #womenshistorymonth feature is my sister and public servant, Florida Representative @micheleforfl
Michele has spent her entire career demanding justice and accountability from systems of oppression – doing everything from representing the family of Markeis McGlockton after he was slain in front of his children, to valiantly fighting against Republican draconian efforts to end a womanβs right to choose, whitewashing the history of our nation, and erasing countless LGBTQ+/SGL people for who they are.
A member of @nbjconthemove Good Trouble Network, Michelle is the first-ever black queer woman elected to Florida’s Legislature. Michelle is running for the 13th Congressional seat here in Florida. Learn more about her campaign on her website- weβll be lucky to have her representing the people in D.C.
Todayβs #womenhistorymonth feature is Missouri Representative Ashley Bland Manlove.
A member of @nbjconthemove Good Trouble Network, Ashley became the first openly queer elected official to lead the Missouri Legislative Black Caucus. Prior to elected office, Ashley served as an intelligence analyst for the MO National Guard. She was recognized with the Army Achievement Medal for outstanding service.

I continue to be inspired by this brother every day. If you havenβt yet, make sure to check out @michaeldtubbs powerful new memoir, βThe Deeper the Rootsβ. Required reading for anyone in service to their community – elected or not. Show link in bio.
Weβre celebrating Georgia Representative @parkcannon58 today for our #womenshistorymonth series.
While many in the country learned of Park following her violent arrest standing up to those who would strip our most vulnerable of their fundamental right to vote, Park has been a public servant since Day 1.
The youngest member of the Georgia House of Representatives, Park serves on the Executive Committee of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus, the nationβs largest state black caucus, as the Chair of the Civil and Human Rights Committee. Park also is a member of @nbjconthemove Good Trouble Network.
Last year, Park penned a new book called βThe Universal Guide to Running for Officeβ – check it out!
Today Iβm taking a moment to appreciate Colorado State Legislator Representative @leslieherod for our #womenshistorymonth series.
Leslie was elected in 2016 as the first LGBTQ African American in the Colorado General Assembly, while receiving the highest number of votes of any candidate running in a contested election. Leslie is also a member of @nbjconthemove Good Trouble Network.
This session, Leslie has been instrumental in crafting legislation focused on the opioid crisis and making Juneteenth a holiday in the Centennial State.
Thank you for your leadership, Representative!
NYC Councilmember @cmcrystalhudson is todayβs #womenshistorymonth feature. A member of @nbjconthemove Good Trouble Network, Crystal became the first-ever same gender loving Black woman elected to the New York City Council.
Crystalβs commitment to public service began in 2013 when her mother started exhibiting signs of Alzheimerβs disease. As the only child of a single mother, Crystal quickly became the primary caregiver for her mother and experienced first-hand how difficult it is for working families to navigate complex, bureaucratic systems and access services and resources needed to keep older New Yorkers safe and healthy at home, where they can age in place and maintain their dignity.
Crystalβs existence has always been about service. I canβt wait to see what the future holds for the Councilmember.
Todayβs #womenshistorymonth spotlight goes to Georgia State Representative @renittashannon.
Renitta grew up in Central Florida with her sister in a religious household. Her father was a pastor. During college Shannon worked as a restaurant server, earned scholarships, took out student loans, and with the help of her parents, she graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in sociology.
A member of @nbjconthemove Good Trouble Network, Renitta has been a consistent advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and in 2017 came out as bisexual- making her the first bisexual legislator to serve in the Georgia General Assembly.
Renitta is now running for Lieutenant Governor of Georgia. If elected, Renitta would make history as the first black woman and LGBTQ+/SGL to serve as Lt. Governor in Georgiaβs history.
You can find out more about her campaign at https://renittashannon.com/
Today Iβd like to introduce you to Chicago Alderwoman @mariafor49 for our #womenshistorymonth series.

Her expertise in public participation is grounded in grassroots organizing efforts for social change.
Maria is a member of @nbjconthemove Good Trouble Network and is committed to fighting on behalf of the Black same gender-loving community and those who have been left behind for far too long.
