CHANGE: Mad how so much can change in a heartbeat and how easy it is to resist ultimately what’s out of your control… I’ve started writing down the first things that jump into my head every morning and mate… reading back this from yesterday had me all in my ‘Oprah soul Sunday’ feelings Lol. Being present and accepting ‘this’ whatever the ‘this’ may be is becoming a way of thinking I want to be better at… Some changes you can instigate, usually professionally, but it seems that most of the change that has gone on to define a moment or turning point I never saw coming. Is being present something you struggle with?
Nothing beats family… Nothing better than when you can call family a friend. The AMAZING @misanharriman shot my brother @cobbieyates and I for @disneyuk and their @medicinema_charity which which builds and runs cinemas in NHS hospitals for patient wellbeing. Inspired by the bond between Mickey & friends to mark International Friendship Day, my friend, my brother and collaborator on my first film @piratesfilm we got our pose on for Mickey & Friends: The Power of Friendship series to raise crucial awareness for Disney’s non-profit partner @medicinema_charity The full series will be available to explore via a virtual gallery, launching in September later this year. #MickeyFriendsStayTrue #ThePowerofFriendship

Somehow through a pandemic we made a movie. Somehow @shaheenbaigcasting put incredible talent in front of me and we cast the perfect people for the job. Overwhelmed by the response. Thankful for the truck load of people who poured so much love and energy into making this real. The trailer for Pirates film is here! Please share, please tell a friend and more importantly, come see the movie in cinemas November 26th. I’m off to drink my water and shut up. It’s a lot bruv.
‘Pirates’ my debut film as writer/director lands in cinemas in November. To say it’s been a journey would be an understatement. To say I’m proud of the hundreds of people who made this real doesn’t remotely begin to explain how I truly feel… It’s nearly time to share what we made and it starts here, with this teaser poster. Pirates really is on the way and ahead of you seeing the the teaser trailer, I can honestly say we made something that embodies Joy from beginning to end. Our stories can be joyful too… Can’t wait for you to see @piratesfilm and know exactly what I mean.
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY: Introducing the ‘There’s rice at home’ edition featuring the boss. My mum. I started this year with a list of intentions, one of which was to be more invested in my relationship with my parents… Getting to know them properly, as an adult, through new eyes. Through conversations had this year alone, my understanding of just how much we ask of and are given by the mothers (and or chosen maternal figures) in our lives is unquantifiable. To all the mums, thank you. And if your kids don’t get just how much you do, they will eventually. To all the women warriors we ain’t nothing without you. Happy international women’s day.

I came away excited about the new voices and faces changing British film in front of AND behind the camera. One such voice is @rachel_clark_ she took our tiny film @piratesfilm and made it look like we had a hell of a lot more to spend. She’s a director of photography, she runs a team that move like an army and she’s one of the most awesome collaborators I’ve worked with. Women in film we salute you!
