Olivia Swann Instagram – Tonight’s episode of Legends is a special one for me. The story of the Black Rosies, the phenomenal Black women and women of colour who fought to help out on the home front during WWII and endured relentless racism and sexism while they worked, is a story that is rarely told. Despite the intense discrimination, the Black Rosies pushed through because they were proud of the work they were doing and proud of their part in the war effect. Strong Black women have always existed throughout history, I’m here because of them, and honouring their lives and remembering them is such an important part of what we do. It’s an honour to help tell stories like these. I was so thrilled to work with @totallykimleigh who is one of the kindest and brightest souls I have ever met. She brought so much sincerity and heart to Gladys and it was humbling to share such beautiful and emotional scenes with her. Kimleigh, I can’t thank you enough. This episode highlights the strength of women and I couldn’t be more grateful for the incredible women I work with. Filming this episode was a very personal experience in many ways and, sadly, problematic behaviour and ignorance still exist which is why I care so much about stories like this one.
