I have just spent a magnificently creative and beautiful week in Pristina, Kosovo, teaching a week-long experimental and personal filmmaking course.
I am a self-taught filmmaker and didn’t come from academia myself whatsoever. Still, from 2019 onwards, I realised that (solely based on practical and financial reasons) I wholeheartedly enjoy teaching what I have learned and experienced in filmmaking over the past two decades of non-stop filmmaking. I also discovered that I need to love and understand my students to teach them something purely personal and technical at the same time. Therefore for me is excruciatingly vital to create an intense connection among us.
Here in Kosovo, we have managed to create an extraordinary sensory and utterly poetic feature film together in only one week. We even premiered it last night with a fantastic audience to test the limits of our creation. I want to congratulate all of my 13 superb talented students for their incredible films, and I wish them the best of luck in their future endeavours.
Last but not least, I thank my dear friends and colleagues Alush and Vigan from Kino Armata (and all the team) for showing me the most profound friendship, professionalism and hospitality possible. I can’t wait to return to Kosovo soon, faleminderit and onwards!

Yesterday I had a wonderful time presenting a virtual masterclass as part of the 38th Tehran International Short Film Festival. Many thanks to all the programmers, organizers and technical staff for making it happen and providing this opportunity. I am particularly happy that my work, films, and the cinematic culture that I tried to create all of my life independently are getting modest recognition in my country of birth, Iran. Although I have never felt and identified as an Iranian, Irish or European citizen whatsoever of any kind but I am deeply thankful for the countries I have lived in for many personal reasons. I am and will always be a nomad/vagabond filmmaker belonging to cinema itself, only. Onwards!
