I love my parents. Yesterday, in a random park in Forte Wayne, Indiana, my mother sees a drum and starts busting out some dholki (Indian drum) beats. My father defies all gender norms and starts dancing to the beat of his woman’s drum. I stand there, watching them, falling deeper in love with my parents who teach me to be proud of who I am no matter which part of the world I find myself.
It’s Holi, today/tomorrow, depending on which part of the world you’re from. A festival which celebrates the triumph of good over hate. The triumph of love.
As I keep watching this video on repeat inspired by my parents, I’m reminded, especially during this time, “Make Art, Not War”.
