I am so grateful to @glamourmag for the opportunity to share my story and my writing with the world for the first time ever. What started as a therapeutic piece for myself soon evolved into more. While I normally try to keep my personal life private, I decided to share my story with the hope that it might help at least one woman feel a little less alone. We are brave, we are resilient, we are strength embodied. Thank you to @annamoeslein for believing in this piece and publishing it. (Link in bio) 📸: @selashiloni

Thank you so much for the outpouring of love and support. This was not an easy story to share but I did so in the hopes of helping others experiencing the same. While I am unable to reply to each and every message, please know that I have read them all and they have touched the bottom of my heart. This is not a club we asked to be a part of, but I have felt so nurtured and supported by everyone’s voice and strength. I see you. I hear you. I grieve with you. Sending you all my love, ~ A

“They cannot scare me with their empty spaces Between stars—on stars where no human race is. I have it in me so much nearer home To scare myself with my own desert places.” – Robert Frost I have wrestled over the past weeks with when and how to appropriately reenter social media given the current climate. While I hope you have been finding the resources and news in my Instagram Stories helpful, I thought I would post about something deeply personal to me. The world can be overwhelming as it is, but in the face of an omnipresent news cycle in the midst of a global pandemic, ecological crisis, and social injustices – feelings of isolation and helplessness may be debilitating. But I want you to know that you are not alone. Crisis Text Line provides free, 24/7 support via text message for anything you may want to talk about: anxiety, depression, suicide, or school. Text HOME to 741741. If you are in emotional distress or feeling suicidal, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline provides free and confidential emotional support to people 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, across the United States. To speak to a counselor, call the Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). NAMI (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) also has many great regional specific resources on their website, nami.org. We are all in this together. You matter. 📸: @skyglowproject

Today, the nation’s most restrictive abortion ban, Texas Senate Bill 8, went into effect and the U.S. Supreme Court didn’t lift a finger to stop it. Now, in the state of Texas, abortions after six weeks of gestation — i.e., before most people know they are pregnant — have been banned WITH NO EXCEPTION FOR RAPE OR INCEST. And if that wasn’t horrific enough, S.B. 8 has empowered private citizens to sue anyone who they believe is either providing or aiding people with access to abortion care. It is a modern day witch hunt with a $10,000 bounty. Anyone can be a target, from a rideshare driver to a priest to a supportive friend. And what happens if a woman has a spontaneous abortion – the medical term for a miscarriage – and someone misinterprets that? Apparently, “my body, my choice” only applies to a certain agenda. This is not about saving lives, it is about controlling women and their choices.
