Andy Puddicombe Instagram – We don’t sit with our eyes closed to become good at sitting with our eyes closed. We sit so that we can train the mind, understand the mind, cultivating awareness and compassion that can be put to use for the benefit of all.
These qualities show up in the world in allowing us to cut through the noise, to listen to that which is spoken, and that which goes unsaid.

They show up in allowing us to see the conditioned mind more clearly, to understand our biases and judgements and, recognizing their harm, to let them go.
They allow us to transform understandable feelings of anger at injustices around the world and transform that energy into positive, lasting, meaningful action.

They remind us that we are all interconnected, interdependent, that we have a responsibility to support one another, to care for one another.

When we live our life in this way there is no room for prejudice, no room for bigotry, injustice or inequality of any kind. There is only room for love.

Today, two weeks after his death, and after much reflection, I’m remembering George Floyd. And the countless innocent individuals and communities that, both now and in the past, have been subjected to prejudice, injustice, inequality and violence.
There really is no excuse. We can all do better. We must do better. Meditation alone will not change things, but it can be an invaluable friend and support along the way X
