🌱 Mugwort ft my feelings on the Roe v Wade news
Someday we’ll also have a chat about western herbalism speaking over eastern ethnobotany (especially in regards to Mugwort) but today we talk about more pressing things.
Honeysuckle flower season!!
(Also my hat is from @bagtazo, since a few peeps asked!!) Columbus, Ohio
GRAPE HYACINTH TIME 🍇 let’s do a lil kitchen science 🧪
SOCHAN TIME (with a lil dash of ethnobotanical history) Columbus, Ohio
When foraging friends come over, you have to make some tasty foraged food!! I thickened my soup with wild rice (a tip from @foragerchef’s fantastic book Flora!) and the field garlic (allium vineale) parathas are gonna be in my book!! So great having Sam Thayer and Myrica visit!! Columbus, Ohio
I’m OUT OF QUARANTINE and I’m ON THE BOARD this morel season!! Thanks Al for letting me galumph around your property again!!
Introducing new friends to old friends (the old friends being the sorrel 😆)
There was a moment when we were all just silently, happily munching in the forest that I will hold onto forever 😆🥰 the PNW was so gracious and giving! Both the people and the terroir ❤️ can’t wait to come back! And I gotta make sure it’s during salmonberry season!! Vancouver, British Columbia

A quick trip out west means a lil fast forward in flora! Southern Magnolias are in bloom all over LA, a lil far away from their native range! They all seem pretty content, though 🌸 surprise appearance from sweet bean @littlelengies!! Foraging and cooking is always fun, but getting to share the food with friends is what really warms my heart ♥️
Want to find more recipes? Look it up using its name in Japanese: Urui! It’s been a common wild mountain veggie there 5ever!! Columbus, Ohio
VIOLET JELLY CANDY 🍬 ✨💜 Columbus, Ohio
BLACK LOCUST BEIGNETS ✨ I grew up in the native range of Robinia pseudoacacia (shoutout to Southern Ohio!) so finding out that French and Italian cuisine have doughnuts including these flowers was wild to me!
The trees grow quickly, produce hard wood, are sunlight and pollution tolerant, and folks value the honey made by bees who frequent the fragrant flowers so the trees were planted far and wide around the globe starting in the 17th century! The oldest tree in Paris is a Black Locust!!
By secret bag bandana is from @wazoosurvivalgear and I am OBSESSED WITH IT 😆😅 Columbus, Ohio
This seemed fitting for Easter and YES I MESSED UP THE FIRST UPLOAD 🤣🤣🤣🐰
I’m gonna do a deeper dive about Giant and Japanese Knotweed later this week, but until then, enjoy me @cesarkuriyama @daniellismore @andresruzo and @anneamadden becoming these feral rabbits’ BEST FRIENDS
LOL, one day I’ll be good at social media but until then have some american food history! 😆🌱 Poison! Culture! Dolly Parton! This video has a lot! Columbus, Ohio
VARENYE – pine cone jam! 🌲 A few years back I saw @66squarefeet mention pine cone preserves in passing which sent me into a SPIRALING RABBIT HOLE on the internet which involved some Google translate and some very handy Georgian websites!
Here’s how you can make some, to save you all the time I spent stumbling through the recipe until I got it right!
ITS FIZZY FLOWER DRINK SEASON!!! 🌸🌸🌸✨
Had a bad day. Went to the woods. Felt a bit better 💗
VIOLET SOUP: IT’S GREEN
