So many friends and family came together to pull this off, and I still have no idea how we did it.
To our entire community- thank you for helping a broke, aspiring filmmaker who had no idea how to pull this off create the most ridiculous proposal ever.
But this wasn’t even the best part. The best part was three months later when I actually got to marry my best friend and celebrate with everyone in this video.
We love you all!
The first birthday we ever celebrated together was your 28th birthday. It’s been a decade. We are completely different people now and I never would’ve guessed that we could pack so much into these 10 years as we have. Although it’s really tempting to list and celebrate all of the incredible things that you have created for the world to see over the past decade, I’m choosing not to do that because the truth is that those are not the best parts of you. You could’ve done none of those things and you would’ve been just as extraordinary and special in my eyes. What’s the most awe-inspiring to me is your radical devotion to God, to your self growth and to the well being of your family. It’s your willingness to evolve and to make this life golden and magical, for you and for everyone around you. @justinbaldoni , you are such a beautiful soul and human and I couldn’t be more honored to do this life with you.

Yesterday was Maxwell’s fourth birthday. Our little lightbulb that never turns off. The feeling he brings when he enters a room is one of sweet tunes and spring bouquets, or the joy of seeing a hummingbird or a double rainbow. He is kindness and sweetness and generosity and compassion all wrapped up in one little human. Add a whole lot of creativity and a big love for dinosaurs, and you have our Maxwell. His wild, soft, golden curls represent exactly who he is. Our son-shine, our Maxwell, Happy 4 and thank you for all that you are 💖

There are days when this is the best. And there are days when this is really hard. It’s no doubt my most beautiful work of art and my greatest honor. And yes, I most definitely asked for some alone time today 😎 Happy Mother’s Day 🌺
On my way home home (🇸🇪) and traveling without my little entourage for a whole week. That’s a first since having kids. I keep panicking thinking that I’ve lost a bag or a child because I couldn’t possibly be traveling with just a backpack on my back and have NOTHING in my hands. I’ve already looked at pictures of my family and zoomed in on their faces and lingered there for a little too long. I’ve also done a little dance of freedom, read 70 pages of a book and enjoyed s i l e n c e. Damn it’s nice to be alone. Damn it’s hard to be away. 🤪
This has been our 2022 so far and we are so effing ready for a change!! Seems we got a double whammy by starting with a regular flu and topping it off with a little Covid. We’ve also learned that even the tooth fairy can get Covid, something we had to explain to our daughter this morning when there was nothing under her pillow (the brain fog is real).
We continue to send our love to all those who are hit hard by this virus, physically and/or mentally and emotionally. May your bodies and hearts mend with grace and ease.

When my Maiya was a breastfeeding baby, I often had to leave the fun at parties to feed her because she was So. Damn. Distracted. There I was, all alone in an empty guest room or bathroom trying to feed my kid. The Cocoon changed all that for me. It’s finally here! My next book Boys Will Be Human for Middle Graders (and honestly everyone) – comes out October 18, 2022 (On Maxwell’s birthday!) Link in bio to pre order!
This is a book I desperately needed in middle school, as those years were some of the most confusing, painful, awkward, and difficult times in my life.
-It’s when I learned that my allegiance as a man was to my own gender, and that being strong, powerful, dominant, and sexual were my only options.
-It’s when I learned to make choices not from a place of love but from a place of fear and survival. Fear that my manhood would be challenged or taken away, fear that I would be bullied and harassed.
-It’s when it felt like the world was screaming that who I was—even when I was still figuring out who I was—wasn’t enough. And it would never be.
I wish that when I grew up there were more voices, louder voices, telling boys that who they are, as they are, is enough.
-That their sensitivity is actually their strength.
-That their emotions aren’t anything to be ashamed of and are the very things that make them human.
-That they don’t have to know it all, or pretend and perform to be liked because humility is a super power.
-That their bodies are incredible just the way they are.
-That intimacy is more than just physical.
-That mental health is just as (if not more important) than physical health.
-That they can feel hurt, sad, confused, scared…that they can feel, period.
My hope is that Boys Will Be Human can be one of those voices. That it can be a trusted friend, a safe place that not just boys, but anyone can go (and hopefully where adults in their lives can go with them) to be reminded that they are enough. That it will spark and guide real, honest, deep, transparent, and at times, uncomfortable conversations about what it means to be a boy, but more importantly, what it means to be human.
I hope you consider sharing this book with someone you love, because now more than ever our world needs more boys who are brave enough to be human; boys who know that being human is more than enough.
