Thank you @outmagazine for featuring me in this months issue. I am very grateful to be featured alongside my queer cast mates from #StarTrekDiscovery 🌈 #linkinbio After reading the script for the season 2 finale of @startrekonpplus, Coutts – who portrays Keyla Detmer, a bridge officer and pilot aboard U.S.S. Discovery – burst into tears. The storyline saw crew members of the Starfleet decide to travel to the future, and in doing so, choosing to leave the life they knew in order to advance the greater good. “It wasn’t so much that reading [the script] made me realize I was queer,” @couttsemily clarifies to @dnlreynolds. “I had been discovering that for many years prior. It was more that whenI read it, I was inspired to be brave enough to finally come out, and tell people that I was gay, and trust that my future would be a beautiful thing if I was living openly and freely. I’m really grateful for that experience and proud of myself for taking the leap.”
