Jussie is innocent. For far too long Black folks have been expected to go through trauma and then get back up as if that trauma is normal. We will be speaking on Jussie’s behalf for the near future.
2 out of 3 state judges voted this week to suspend Jussie’s jail sentence while he awaits his appeal. This is a clear acknowledgment from the state that there are holes in this case.
To the State of Illinois, do the right thing and clear Jussie’s name.

I have been deeply disappointed by people making fun of Jussie Smollett & celebrating his sentencing. When did Black people facing incarceration and the threat of the violence that awaits people in prison become funny?
Regardless of whether or not you believe he is innocent, this is no joking matter.
But as for me and mine, I do not believe 45. I do not believe right-wing media. I do not believe the Chicago Police Department. I do not believe homophobic, anti-Black memes. I stand with Jussie Smollett. I believe him.
There has been ongoing misinformation spread about this case. We’ve probably seen more memes, jokes, & hearsay than truthful, ethical reporting about Jussie’s case.
The Osundairo brothers were held in police custody & interrogated for 47 hrs, and did not sign the confession supporting the CPD’s narrative until the 47th hr.
In 2019, the former 45th president of the US instigated a Jussie Smollett conspiracy theory. Right-winged media started and amplified the notion that the attack was a hoax.
Richard Hagen, one of the detectives on Jussie’s case was sued for covering up the murder of LaQuan McDonald. He was never held accountable, but CPD saw fit to assign him to Smollett’s case. This is just one of the detectives on Jussie’s case with a tenure full of misconduct.
From 2013-2019, police in the US killed 7,666 people. The Chicago Police Department has a long history of corruption, misconduct, abuse, & torture––that is ongoing. They are responsible for the death of LaQuan McDonald, and for the deaths of Rekia Boyd, Bettie Jones, LaTanya Haggerty––Black women killed by CPD.
People believe Jussie hired Black Nigerian men to pose as white supremacists to stage a fake hate crime attack on him so that he could get a raise–––this is a story so crazy only the cops would make this up.
