It feels like yesterday and yet it has been a lifetime. As I write this, my documentary is getting ready to premiere at Festival De Cannes. And as grateful as I am for being selected with this high honor, I look forward most to sharing my life’s story with all of you. As a lifelong filmmaker it thrills me to say the film will be in theaters July 23. And as a person who also enjoys getting cozy on my couch, I’m possibly more happy that it will be available on @amazonprimevideo Aug 6. Here’s to giving every day the opportunity to be the most beautiful of your life.
Grateful. I hope that’s what you’ll take away, when watching this. Along with the feeling of inspiration and humility. It’s what I feel for the care and time, everyone who was part of the making of this film, to help share my story. And I can’t wait to share it with all of you. I forgot to mention that the paperback edition of my memoir ‘I’m Your Huckleberry’ from @simonandschuster was released last week. Someone saw it resting on a front table at Barnes & Noble. I’m humbled by the company I’m sharing, though what I love most about this photo, is that the book is resting along side @diane_keaton ‘s wonderful memoir. Dear Diane was at @helmelstudios last week to view the current exhibition with artist @victor_castillo_art . Don’t you just love serendipitous connections?

We’ve moved… everything under one roof! The move may only be about 200 feet west from the original location, though in the great pioneering spirit of ‘moving out west’ the short pilgrimage combines the gallery and studio into one creative, conceptual sandbox. The expansive space will allow us to host and showcase artists from every medium, allowing us to present large scale installations and introduce community workshops. We can’t thank all of the artists, guests, and collectors, who support the creative arts and our commitment to the community enough. Without you this would not be possible. I’m very humbled to share this story about Melanie Andrews. She is a hero and an inspiration. Her and the team at @innercityshakes are exemplary models to follow. Posted @withregram • @latimes In her 70s, Melanie Andrews has shared her lifelong devotion to Shakespeare with thousands of students — most of them Black or Latino — over a 30-year career teaching theater in #SouthLA schools including Washington Preparatory High School and Compton High School. She’s the artistic director of the Inner City Shakespeare Ensemble, a community theater company that pairs young performers in their teens and 20s with professional mentors. Founded in 2010, the group began as a collaboration between the British Academy of Film and Television Arts and Washington Prep. The ensemble recruits emerging actors to perform Shakespeare in parks and other venues through school and community organizations, churches and casting websites. The best recruitment tactic, however, is former students who remain fans of Andrews and her work. For Andrews, Shakespeare represents a foundation for success, particularly for students of color attending under-resourced schools. If they can master Shakespearean wordplay, “they can master anything,” she says. But it’s not all #Shakespeare. The #theater ensemble has evolved into a support system and expanding network for the estimated 1,000 young people who have been involved since its founding. If the young actors have a need, Andrews is there to fill it. Andrews says she buys socks and underwear. She’s helped students to move into their college dorms, to purchase books for class, and to make sure their financial aid packages are settled. Over 10 years of the program, she’s been to weddings and there’s also been a baby, “but no babies that we shouldn’t have,” she quickly adds. Full story in our bio. 📸: @therealchristinahouse
