QAF is 21. Wow. It is a little hard to believe. Just yesterday I was introduced to someone I would be working with who said QAF changed his life. I then saw a tweet today from a woman thanking Thea and I for our portrayal of Mel and Linz. Before QAF I was fixated on movies and theatre, I never understood the power of television to change the world and more importantly people’s hearts and minds. I should have understood it as I was so massively influenced by the almighty CBS line up including great shows like MASH and Mary Tyler Moore. Anyway, 21 years ago we all held hands in a hotel room in NY right before the world premiere of QAF and promised this circle would never be broken. And it seems not a week goes by without talking to one of my former cast mates. We became family. The show changed the world and we all changed each other. I love you my rebel soulmates. May we all continue to raise hell and break new ground without fear and may we continue to find those rebel soulmates to take the journey with us ❤️
Twenty years ago this man let me spend the night on his couch while I waited for the curtains to arrive for my new apartment in Toronto. We had just been flown up there to shoot a new show for Showtime ( QAF) and we had just met. He has been a great friend on and off screen and Dashiell calls him the pillow fight man. Happiest of birthdays Scotty! You are loved my friend and we will see you soon!! 🙏🏻💕🙏🏻💕🙏🏻💕🙏🏻
Happy Lesbian visibility week and here is to my partner in crime. Could I have posted a more glamorous picture, yes. Would it have captured us as well as this one, no. This was the energy that got us through about 40 episodes in less than two years followed by three more seasons ( 83 eps total). I don’t think those schedules even exist anymore. We had fun and passion and play mixed in with a lot of hard work. Love you Thea. Would not have wanted to ride that river with anyone else but you lady. 💕🙏🏻💕#queerasfolk #lesbianvisibilityday #lesbian
This is literally a test. I was unable to load a picture just now so I tried another picture. Very odd. Anyway. Hi! ❤️
Wishing everyone a joyous Passover and a Blessed Good Friday! I’m so tired- that’s all I got 😂😂😂
Happy birthday Dame Gless!!! She came on the set of QAF, a feminist icon who had won multiple Emmys and Golden globes and where some people might try to separate themselves out, Sharon became family. She was just another actor in the trenches with all of us. I love her to the moon and back and will never get enough of her incredible stories. Let’s keep making memories lady!💕💕💕 SG book Launch with Dawn LaFreda
Happy Happy Pride!!!! WeHo Pride kicks off tonight! Dodgers are playing the Mets and it is Gay night at Dodger stadium! Be safe everyone and more than ever we need to celebrate!! Sending you all love. I adore these photos with Peter and Robert from NY Pride. They are actual photos.. before iPhones became the rage 😂old school baby. #queerasfolk 💕 🏳️⚧️ 🌈
It was one of those days where you feel like you can do it all. I did some homework with Dashiell this morning. Then Adam Marcus came over to shoot an interview for his doc, the making of JGTH. Then Dashiell charmed everyone and as always Adam brought the most wonderful group of people, crew with him. Always a pleasure being under his direction. And of course it is never a bad day when the lovely and talented Diana Brown does your make up. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I have become one with this fire. I am pretty certain I have been sitting in front of this fireplace for more than a week. 😂 If anyone asks, New Years resolutions start third week of January. Relax. Enjoy the moment. ❤️❤️❤️
It’s been almost 5 years since my Dad taught Dashiell how to fly a kite on this beach. He passed away about three months later but he never really left us. I feel him cheering us on. I know he is proud of the boy Dashiell is becoming. I know he is sending us bear hugs and joy and angels to surround us. 💕💕💕I love you Dad. I’ll continue to raise a mensch who will continue to make the world a better place. 💕
I finally retired this mask for a KN95 but I really loved this mask. If omicron passes and we can get back to wearing fashion masks I suggest heading over to Etsy where they have a ton of inexpensive, homemade masks for every occasion. I have become fond of masks. I will probably wear a mask while flying for the rest of my life. Anyway, stay safe and don’t let your guard or your mask down❤️❤️❤️
This memory popped up- Halloween 2016. I dressed in overalls with a striped turtleneck and pigtails ( Drew Barrymore) but Dashiell as Elliot just stole everyone’s heart. And the fact he kissed little ET riding in his tricycle. I can’t take it. Cuteness overload. Hope you had a nice Halloween ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
My Father would have been 90 today. I love the way Dashiell is looking up at him in this picture. He made such an effort at 85 to play with Dashiell, to make a good impression on him. At the time I didn’t think much of it- he was always a stand up guy. Looking back I realize he knew he was living on borrowed time and wanted to give it all to his last grandchild. Even in the hospital he made everyone laugh. He never made it about himself- he wanted everyone to have a good time and not feel sorry for him. So many lessons he gave us in those last few years. 💕 💕💕thanks for hovering around us tough guy. We feel you. We miss you. Happy Birthday Daddy 💕💕💕
I just spent three hours wrapping presents and then donning a Santa outfit. Dashiell wants to catch Santa this year and so he set up cameras in the living room and I just need him to believe in Santa, lol. So I placed all the presents under the tree in full character. Have a Magical Christmas everyone ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Seven. This boy is seven years old. It’s so hard to believe. He has had so many memorable birthday parties but this year we are postponing the celebration. We stayed up late last night and made his birthday cake together and watched INSIDE OUT. I promised to take him someplace beautiful once the coast is clear and Omicron has passed. He Knows I keep my promises. ❤️ My sweet, smart, funny boy with the gorgeous vocabulary~ I am so very proud of you. Stay close to art, music, real friends~ it will help you make sense of it all. Keep creating, always. Art will see you through this madness of a world and lift you up. Music will simply transcend everything. And you will meet the Foo Fighters some day and ride in a boat that cleans plastic out of the ocean, I promise ❤️ Happy Birthday Dashiell. Mama loves you ❤️
Dashiell received his Yellow Stripe belt tonight! Five months of hard work, six days a week with no breaks. I truly believe Dashiell will achieve whatever he puts his mind to with his grit and determination. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️So proud of you Dashiell, Keep flying, just soar as high as you can imagine and beyond. I’ll be your wind, love Mama🙏❤️🙏
The thing about motherhood is nothing will ever be the same again- I mean nothing! Lol a trip to target becomes an adventure. Brunch is not what you expect.. it’s brunch with a twist. Driving home from brunch is not just pulling in the garage but jumping out and playing scooter tag in the driveway.. nothing will ever be normal again and thank god for that. 💕💕💕 Thank you Dashiell for making me a mother. Love being on this journey with you. You are my heart and my true north. Thank you for being such a good kid and so smart and thoughtful 💕💕💕
Last night was the West Coast Premiere of Holland Taylor’s ANN at the Pasadena Playhouse. I almost didn’t go as I saw it in NY about 9 years ago. Well, I am so glad I went. There was something magical about last night. The more intimate venue allowed the audience to experience the show in a more intimate way. You simply can not miss this show. I do not say this a lot. You must go see the magical goddess that is Holland Taylor. She is in her prime in this show.. I laughed, I was moved to tears, I cheered, I had chills.. you have to go see this piece of work. I just can not say enough. Run to see this. Support the arts, support theatre, support women and support this truly remarkable goddess of the stage. ❤️ #hollandtaylor #pasadenaplayhouse #theatre #women #annrichards
This picture says it all. Dashiell is counting the days until he can become a certified diver. #theoceancleanup #bluerevolution #aquariumofthepacific
In these times especially with hate crimes on the rise may we stand by our brothers and sister and refuse to be silent. 🙏🏻 #Neverforget
To find your passion and your love at such a young age, It brings tears to my eyes. Dashiell’s first research paper he turned in last week was entitled “The Various Eyeballs of Sea Creatures”. He loves loves loves the ocean and all life in it. Through him I have learned more about the ocean than I have ever known. May all your dreams come true Dashiell and may the ocean be cared for and all sea creatures kept happy and healthy. Happy World Oceans Day!! 🐟🙏🐟
Dashiell’s very last bow off the mat as a Yellow Stripe belt! Dash passed his test and he is officially a Purple belt! I am so proud of him. Here is to grit, determination and hard work. Keep putting your best foot forward Dashiell and I’ll be there cheering you on every single step of the way!! 💕🙏💕 #futureblackbelt #taekwondo
Happy Earth Day!!! We were given an absolute paradise. I hope we can preserve it and nurture it and keep it safe for our children and future generations. Dashiell talks a lot about cleaning up the ocean. He has been obsessed with sea creatures and the ocean since he could talk. This is from our trip to Hawaii last week. He was in the ocean more than he was on land. We reached out to Boyan Slat who is a doing remarkable work in cleaning up the ocean and is a person to support. Follow @BoyanSlat for more info. Thank you Earth for your beauty 🙏🏻 #teamseas
He was to Broadway what the Beatles were to rock and roll. There is not an actor alive who was not influenced by Sondheim on some level. I remember shooting a scene in Queer as folk where I had to sing to my child. I’m not a singer. I’m an actor who can sing. I remembered Sondheim saying he preferred actors who could sing over singers who could act. All the greats have a way of lifting you up, giving you confidence and making you feel grounded at the same time. I want to be sad and in a way it is an end of an era but somewhere there is a little boy or little girl listening to Sondheim with dreams of the theatre. Every generation is entitled to its greatness and I am sure he will be there encouraging them along through his music and his legacy. Thank you sir and rest in sweet music ❤️
