My sister @ivymansfield is not my interpreter and “helper.” Don’t ever tell anyone hearing that it is a good thing they can hear especially if they have a Deaf family member. It’s not inspiring to learn sign language, that’s being bilingual. Talk to us directly and know that there’s more to Deaf people than just being Deaf.

This is nothing new… for many years, deaf babies and children aren’t getting sign language! There’s so much pressure for Deaf children to be “normal,” to speak, and to hear. Watch the video for six reasons why this continues to be a HUGE problem (and there’s many more). That needs to change because every Deaf child deserves the right to learn sign language. What’s more is that sign language also comes with a culture and community. To hearing families, please learn sign language and gift them sign language. It’ll make the world a better place.
