Imagining this sweet and simple maid caring for our band of raggamuffin Squickerwonkers was so endearing and depressing 😂. Having set the series in a turn-of-the-20th-century type time, @rodrigo_bastos_didier had this very clear vision of her elaborate hat and skirt. When I voiced her for the audio book I knew from the first breath she whispered that she had to have a Jewish New Yorker accent. I have no idea why, it just seemed to suit her and that was the voice I had in my head when I wrote all her lines. (And, because The Squickerwonkers is set in an imaginary place and time, everyone can be anything we want them to be (wait till you see the costumes in Andy’s book! 😍).)
