Freida Pinto Instagram - This one has hit me hard. A VOID that can NEVER be filled because there was simply no one like Irrfan Khan. His grace and dignity along with his monumental talent as an artist, actor - a portrayer of humanity in all it's shapes and forms made me not only have deep admiration for him but I instinctively wanted to emulate that grace in my career as well. . . There is a picture from the SAG awards( Irrfan, Dev, me and Anil) that sits on my book shelf in Mumbai and everytime I look at it, I am taken down a memory lane of all things so beautiful and joyous about Slumdog Millionaire and the awards celebrations. And in all of it I have this one beautiful and powerful memory of Irrfan - Unfazed by the glitzy glamour, no matter which Hollywood icon walked past us. Quiet but not silent- his responses to every interviewer were so meaningful and never lacking humour. He was representing India with achingly high levels of grace and dignity. He stood grounded in reality on every world stage, every red carpet- Grateful and so collected! How lucky was I, a complete little mess of a newbie, to have him as a role model! . . For those who know of his talent, you know it cannot be replaced. For those who have not yet been introduced to his talent...Oh, do not deprive yourselves please! His repertoire has something for everyone. Warrior, Namesake, Piku, Maqbool, Life of Pi, The Lunchbox, Paan Singh Tomar and ofcourse Slumdog Millionaire. Start somewhere, anywhere! I promise you...Irrfan Khan will be FOREVER carved in your memories too!
Freida Pinto Instagram - Just last week, a kind elderly gentleman waiting to be seated before me at one of my favourite restaurants in Austin did a double turn when he saw me. I smiled politely because I knew he was going to say something like “Haven’t I seen you before” or “You look like someone I know”. But then he made me smile even harder as he exclaimed without hesitation, “LATIKA!” It’s been 14 years since Slumdog Millionaire premiered worldwide and a lot has changed except for the fact that I’m still recognized as Latika. Latika will always be a part of me and I couldn’t have been more grateful for the jumpstart Slumdog gave me. Jai Ho!

Freida Pinto Instagram - The Postpartum journey has been one of the most intense and wild rides I have ever been on. It felt like the months being pregnant and even childbirth were little  appetizers to this grand main course. Preparation was so key to this life altering phase of mothering and I feel so proud, relieved and blessed to have walked into it with knowledge, research and support. But what does it really mean to be postpartum "prepared". -It certainly doesn't mean you won't feel sad, lonely, frustrated and helpless at times. - or that you will be wonderfully rested and have no sleep deprivation. -or that you won't snap at your well intentioned partner and break down in tears. -or that your nipples won't be sore and that for some of us our toes will curl everytime our little baby birds open up their sweet mouths to latch. -or that you will never doubt your milk supply or for some, be worried about being judged for choosing the formula route. - or that your vagina and the rest of your ladyparts will look and feel exactly the same again as before. - or that your energy levels will always match the nonstop effort you have to put into nourishing that little life. The preparedness is more so to know how best to tackle all of this and to not feel abandoned by a health care system that focuses so much on your pregnancy and birth and somehow disappears when you are most vulnerable and in the most challenging phase of your life. To know that every mama will have a different journey but everyone of us will have some hill to climb. And that most importantly it REALLY DOES GET BETTER and we learn so much about ourselves and gosh we can truly acknowledge and celebrate the goddesses that we are! With @thisis.anya I look forward to joining in the effort to normalize conversations about the challenges and changes brought on during the postpartum period. Changes that need to be better understood, accepted and not shamed. And challenges that can be managed so much better with just a little extra help. My mission is to make this sacred period less about the suffering and more about acceptance, self love and growth. And to bring some much required peace to this healing period. 🙏

Freida Pinto Instagram - Representation Matters! In 2008 when Slumdog Millionaire was released I knew how important that film would be in the way the South Asian narrative would be viewed for the better. I felt so lucky to be part of it. It would mean more opportunities and more acceptance. But that alone was not going to be enough. Because "normalizing" can only achieve scale when we start young. Being part of Mira, Royal Detective is one of my proudest achievements to date. I get to play Queen Shanti who appoints a kind, empathetic, intelligent and confident little girl named Mira to be the Royal detective to her kingdom. This show is groundbreaking on many levels- first of it's kind ever in the animation world, an all South Asian voiceover cast and the best part NO APU accents. Thank you very much. I couldn't help but tear up at the premiere watching the littlest of little kids of all races and ethnicities, to their teenage siblings and their parents completely enthralled while watching Mira Royal Detective. Thank you Disney Junior for putting your time, resources and sincere efforts in making this adorable little animation series that I predict is gonna be monumental in shaping culture. #MiraRoyalDetective @disneyjunior

Freida Pinto Instagram - (Part 1 of 2) An Insta- Detox Story My Truth. A few weeks ago I felt quite claustrophobic on Instagram. It was increasingly getting filled with shallow, temporary, inconsequential, fake, negative noise and messaging and it felt heavy and dense. While there were certainly positive rays of light that so often can put a smile on your face, there were equal or more of the opposite. I felt sad and quite literally like I was wasting my time. Like I was stuck in an episode of Black Mirror. And all that foreshadowing of a disconnected future starting seeming real. I started becoming acutely aware of young kids and adults experiencing beautiful destinations in the world only through the limited lens of their cellphones. All for the 'Gram'. I wanted to shake them out of their daze and remind them to stay present and use their eyes! But quickly realised it wasn't my business! And surely as much as I hate it, I have done it too. I started questioning if Instagram had any positive effects on humankind at all. If it gave me an joy? Quite frankly, I have always had a love- hate relationship with social media. Those who know me and maybe those who follow me can clearly see that too. So I took time off this platform for a while to do a 100% cleanse of these feelings and reasses if it made any sense to me at all and if what I put out in the world mattered, then what is it that I REALLY want to say.... It was and still is film about the freedom of expression and how important it is to fight for human rights in our lives today. We trained with Choreographer Akram Khan (who created the opening ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympic Games) six days a week for four months, to master the modern dance moves required for the film and continued to train during the shoot. Did you know the shoot was banned from Iran so we shot it in Morocco, Paris and London?

Freida Pinto Instagram - Looking back at this year...I realise I have so much that I just cannot dismiss. Yes, this year was challenging and how I hope those extreme uncertainties can just come to an end already. But, what I cannot ignore is all the lessons learned this year, all the education and critical conversations I had that was required to move the needle for humanity to have a chance to triumph, all the strength that came with unimaginable loss, all the pressure that was no longer on my shoulders as I didnt have to be in constant performance mode, all the people I no longer had to pretend for so I could be present for people who really needed me to be there for, all the comfort food I ate without guilt, all the sleep- ins I managed to have and didnt have to make any excuses for, all those family zooms even though we all eventually had zoom fatigue, all our essential workers who will forever be the true heroes and saviours in my eyes, all the hope I felt from both strangers and friends( both old and new) that kept me warm and comforted and allowed for total vulnerability. Every experience I have had this year both good and bad has moulded me into who I am today as I get ready to unveil my 2021 curtain. My dreams and intentions for 2021 are alive and bright but with the knowledge and acceptance to not be hard on myself if things don't turn out exactly as I wished for. So looking back at 2020, you were not in vain, at times you were certainly a pain, but I just cannot dismiss you! You forced me into a pause but I value very much what came from it:-) Happy New Year!!

Freida Pinto Instagram - Last week was beyond epic! I have lived in the United States of America for many years now and one of my greatest desires was to take a road trip to some of the many magnificent National Parks here. I am obsessed with mountains and rivers, streams waterfalls, wildflowers, and giant trees. 100% a mountain person. A place where all that meets the eye is majestic landscapes. Trees bent into grotesque yet entirely beautiful shapes. Where there is no pressure to impress because you just can't compete with what you are standing in front of. Reminding you how much unnecessary time we spend struggling for "permanence", "control" and someone else's definition of "perfection". My heart always finds such stillness, humility, grounding, and inspiration when it collides with these unabused parts of Mother Earth. The Grand Tetons, Yellowstone and Zion National Park made me think of this... Freida Pinto Instagram - (Part 2 of 2) So, In that time off some wonderful things happened: 1. I read more books. 2. I slept an undisturbed 7 to 8 hrs every night. 3. I had more time to workout meditate and plan my meals right. 4. I didn't get headaches and motion sickness from scrolling in moving cars. 5. I was more curious about the details of the current affairs and not just headlines. 6. I didn't fall into that deep dark hole that starts with a photo of your bestie on a holiday and a wasted hour later ends up on an account of cute golden retrievers doing cute things.(although those retrievers did brighten up my day often) 7. I stopped getting drawn into ads and buying more than I needed. 8. I was a lot more clueless on who wore what, ate what, kissed who..and my gosh I am happy to be clueless again! 9. My phone battery stayed alive longer. Woohoo! 10. I now know all the hues that I might have missed that come to make Cory's beautiful blue eyes! 😍 So here I am...Making an appearance on this platform but this time very aware of what I want to put out on it and more importantly what I certainly don't want to take from it. I do enjoy sharing my thoughts and views, especially when they are positive and can inspire on a public platform. But I still plan on sleeping 8 hrs undisturbed every night with lowered cortisol levels. Wouldn't trade that for blue light exposure before bedtime ever again! I am sharing my story with you because I know there is a large majority out there who relate and if any of you are planning on going/have gone on a real insta detox or have found that using this platform meaningfully and positively, maybe even sparingly has bettered your life. She is the reason behind #challengeaccepted Given what we have all learned in the recent months with BLM viral posts made me want to go deeper and get more context before posting. What came out of it is a few versions of its origins but this particular one was most quoted and felt instinctually like the reason it went viral. For those who haven't yet caught up on this story..This one is very important. It is about gender based violence. I have quoted the journalist Bethan McKernan, Turkey and Middle Eastern Correspondant for The Guardian. The Murder/ The Incident: Pinar Gultekin a 27-year-old woman was allegedly brutally murdered and burned by her jealous ex-boyfriend. Her body was found on July 21st. Her murder had sparked outrage in Turkey, shining a light on the country’s shockingly high femicide rate and Turkish government efforts to roll back legislation designed to protect women from gender-based violence. What Followed: Marches in four Turkish cities mourning Gültekin’s death and calling on Turkish politicians to uphold the Istanbul Convention were accompanied by hundreds of thousands of social media posts: one initiative involved posting photos on Instagram with hashtags such as #challengeaccepted and #İstanbulSözleşmesiYaşatır, or “Enforce the Istanbul Convention”, quickly took off in Turkey to emphasise how pictures of murdered women end up in black and white in newspapers. The Istanbul Convention Keeps Turkish Women Alive: Campaigners are also deeply worried about fresh efforts by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s ruling party to repeal a Council of Europe treaty known as the Istanbul convention, groundbreaking legislation from 2011 that protects victims of domestic and gender-based violence and effectively prosecutes offenders. But if there is one thing it brought to the forefront for me, it is that taking care of my mental and physical wellbeing is an absolute non-negotiable. I went on a quest trying out various apps and tools, hacking and plotting more efficient and effective ways to understand my unique brain and body better and customize a program for me that was steeped in science and research. For years doctors have been using genetics to better understand and treat patients. I was so excited to learn that scientific advancements now allow us to learn more about how our genes affect our mental health. The @genomindscience #MentalHealthMap helped me understand how I am hardwired by identifying my unique traits and predispositions across 7 core capabilities: Mood, Stress, Memory & Focus, Sleep, Eating Behavior, Social Behavior, and Habits & Substance Use. For example, I learned how I was hardwired to respond to stress and how anxiety manifests itself in my body. I also learned (full disclosure) about my impaired relationship with food. To say I was blown away by how my test results basically mapped out my specific patterns that I am so aware of, but find difficult to manage at times, was an understatement. But the greatest part about this test was that it didn't leave me stranded. While it is not designed to and shouldn't replace your doctor and your therapist, it gives you some simple and doable tips on how you can improve your mental and physical health. It felt like the months being pregnant and even childbirth were little  appetizers to this grand main course. Preparation was so key to this life altering phase of mothering and I feel so proud, relieved and blessed to have walked into it with knowledge, research and support. But what does it really mean to be postpartum "prepared". -It certainly doesn't mean you won't feel sad, lonely, frustrated and helpless at times. - or that you will be wonderfully rested and have no sleep deprivation. -or that you won't snap at your well intentioned partner and break down in tears. -or that your nipples won't be sore and that for some of us our toes will curl everytime our little baby birds open up their sweet mouths to latch. -or that you will never doubt your milk supply or for some, be worried about being judged for choosing the formula route. - or that your vagina and the rest of your ladyparts will look and feel exactly the same again as before. - or that your energy levels will always match the nonstop effort you have to put into nourishing that little life. The preparedness is more so to know how best to tackle all of this and to not feel abandoned by a health care system that focuses so much on your pregnancy and birth and somehow disappears when you are most vulnerable and in the most challenging phase of your life. To know that every mama will have a different journey but everyone of us will have some hill to climb. And that most importantly it REALLY DOES GET BETTER and we learn so much about ourselves and gosh we can truly acknowledge and celebrate the goddesses that we are! With @thisis.anya I look forward to joining in the effort to normalize conversations about the challenges and changes brought on during the postpartum period. Changes that need to be better understood, accepted and not shamed. And challenges that can be managed so much better with just a little extra help. My mission is to make this sacred period less about the suffering and more about acceptance, self love and growth. And to bring some much required peace to this healing period. 🙏

It was increasingly getting filled with shallow, temporary, inconsequential, fake, negative noise and messaging and it felt heavy and dense. While there were certainly positive rays of light that so often can put a smile on your face, there were equal or more of the opposite. I felt sad and quite literally like I was wasting my time. Like I was stuck in an episode of Black Mirror. And all that foreshadowing of a disconnected future starting seeming real. I started becoming acutely aware of young kids and adults experiencing beautiful destinations in the world only through the limited lens of their cellphones. All for the 'Gram'. I wanted to shake them out of their daze and remind them to stay present and use their eyes! But quickly realised it wasn't my business! And surely as much as I hate it, I have done it too. I started questioning if Instagram had any positive effects on humankind at all. If it gave me an joy? Quite frankly, I have always had a love- hate relationship with social media. Those who know me and maybe those who follow me can clearly see that too. So I took time off this platform for a while to do a 100% cleanse of these feelings and reasses if it made any sense to me at all and if what I put out in the world mattered, then what is it that I REALLY want to say.... Yes, this year was challenging and how I hope those extreme uncertainties can just come to an end already. But, what I cannot ignore is all the lessons learned this year, all the education and critical conversations I had that was required to move the needle for humanity to have a chance to triumph, all the strength that came with unimaginable loss, all the pressure that was no longer on my shoulders as I didnt have to be in constant performance mode, all the people I no longer had to pretend for so I could be present for people who really needed me to be there for, all the comfort food I ate without guilt, all the sleep- ins I managed to have and didnt have to make any excuses for, all those family zooms even though we all eventually had zoom fatigue, all our essential workers who will forever be the true heroes and saviours in my eyes, all the hope I felt from both strangers and friends( both old and new) that kept me warm and comforted and allowed for total vulnerability. Every experience I have had this year both good and bad has moulded me into who I am today as I get ready to unveil my 2021 curtain. My dreams and intentions for 2021 are alive and bright but with the knowledge and acceptance to not be hard on myself if things don't turn out exactly as I wished for. So looking back at 2020, you were not in vain, at times you were certainly a pain, but I just cannot dismiss you! Caption : Looking back at this year…I realise I have so much that I just cannot dismiss. Yes, this year was challenging and how I hope those extreme uncertainties can just come to an end already. But, what I cannot ignore is all the lessons learned this year, all the education and critical conversations I had that was required to move the needle for humanity to have a chance to triumph, all the strength that came with unimaginable loss, all the pressure that was no longer on my shoulders as I didnt have to be in constant performance mode, all the people I no longer had to pretend for so I could be present for people who really needed me to be there for, all the comfort food I ate without guilt, all the sleep- ins I managed to have and didnt have to make any excuses for, all those family zooms even though we all eventually had zoom fatigue, all our essential workers who will forever be the true heroes and saviours in my eyes, all the hope I felt from both strangers and friends( both old and new) that kept me warm and comforted and allowed for total vulnerability. Every experience I have had this year both good and bad has moulded me into who I am today as I get ready to unveil my 2021 curtain. My dreams and intentions for 2021 are alive and bright but with the knowledge and acceptance to not be hard on myself if things don’t turn out exactly as I wished for. So looking back at 2020, you were not in vain, at times you were certainly a pain, but I just cannot dismiss you! I had more time to workout meditate and plan my meals right. 4. I didn't get headaches and motion sickness from scrolling in moving cars. 5. I was more curious about the details of the current affairs and not just headlines. 6. I didn't fall into that deep dark hole that starts with a photo of your bestie on a holiday and a wasted hour later ends up on an account of cute golden retrievers doing cute things.(although those retrievers did brighten up my day often) 7. I stopped getting drawn into ads and buying more than I needed. 8. I was a lot more clueless on who wore what, ate what, kissed who..and my gosh I am happy to be clueless again! 9. My phone battery stayed alive longer. Woohoo! 10. I now know all the hues that I might have missed that come to make Cory's beautiful blue eyes! 😍 So here I am...Making an appearance on this platform but this time very aware of what I want to put out on it and more importantly what I certainly don't want to take from it. I do enjoy sharing my thoughts and views, especially when they are positive and can inspire on a public platform. But I still plan on sleeping 8 hrs undisturbed every night with lowered cortisol levels. Wouldn't trade that for blue light exposure before bedtime ever again! I am sharing my story with you because I know there is a large majority out there who relate and if any of you are planning on going/have gone on a real insta detox or have found that using this platform meaningfully and positively, maybe even sparingly has bettered your life. But if there is one thing it brought to the forefront for me, it is that taking care of my mental and physical wellbeing is an absolute non-negotiable. I went on a quest trying out various apps and tools, hacking and plotting more efficient and effective ways to understand my unique brain and body better and customize a program for me that was steeped in science and research. For years doctors have been using genetics to better understand and treat patients. I was so excited to learn that scientific advancements now allow us to learn more about how our genes affect our mental health. The @genomindscience #MentalHealthMap helped me understand how I am hardwired by identifying my unique traits and predispositions across 7 core capabilities: Mood, Stress, Memory & Focus, Sleep, Eating Behavior, Social Behavior, and Habits & Substance Use. For example, I learned how I was hardwired to respond to stress and how anxiety manifests itself in my body. I also learned (full disclosure) about my impaired relationship with food. To say I was blown away by how my test results basically mapped out my specific patterns that I am so aware of, but find difficult to manage at times, was an understatement. But the greatest part about this test was that it didn't leave me stranded. While it is not designed to and shouldn't replace your doctor and your therapist, it gives you some simple and doable tips on how you can improve your mental and physical health.
