Dubai can be counted on as a kid friendly city. Even then we are still discovering reasons to 💜 our new home. While it’s blistering outside @dubaisummercamp is keeping the girls engaged, entertained and honing those cooking skills so they can make mama some dinner!
Thanks @dubaisummercamp 🌟

Kite beach, Dubai.
I am enjoying the serenity and crowd free sights of Dubai in the summer.
Who else loves gabbing about premature menopause???? Yours truly (and why put a ‘pause’ in an event that is actually a full ‘period’ event? Ironic?)
.
I wrote a deeply personal essay for #PeriodMatters an anthology on diverse menstruation experiences in South Asia. The writing became revelation, coaxing me to confront old experiences and notions while the act of airing them out was cathartic. I hope you will buy this path breaking book. I learned so much and I’m honoured to share pages with a breadth of perspectives from entrepreneurs, policy makers, artists, academics, activists who highlight menstruation through art, poetry, stories and interviews. Bravo @farahahamedauthor for manifesting your vision and passion. This book breathes. And thank you again for asking me to be a part of it 🙏🏼

Pema Chordon on Loving Kindness
(Especially for those of us who use Meditation to self improve)
When people start to meditate or to work with any kind of spiritual discipline, they often think that somehow they’re going to improve, which is a sort of subtle aggression against who they really are. It’s a bit like saying, ‘If I jog, I’ll be a much better person.’ ‘ If I could only get a nicer house, I’d be a better person.’ ‘ If I could meditate and calm down, I’d be a better person.’ Or the scenario may be that they find fault with others; they might say, ‘If it weren’t for my husband, I’d have a perfect marriage.’ ‘If it weren’t for the fact that my boss and I can’t get on, my job would be just great.’ And ‘If it weren’t for my mind, my meditation would be excellent.’
But lovingkindness — maitri — toward ourselves doesn’t mean getting rid of anything. Maitri means that we can still be crazy after all these years. We can still be angry after all these years. We can still be timid or jealous or full of feelings of unworthiness. The point is not to try to change ourselves. Meditation practice isn’t about trying to throw ourselves away and become something better. It’s about befriending who we are already. The ground of practice is you or me or whoever we are right now, just as we are. That’s the ground, that’s what we study, that’s what we come to know with tremendous curiosity and interest.

‘Young as she was, she had watched history set its wings and fly off in the wrong direction more than once.’
…
@ishmaelbeahofficial writes with a richness of humanity that draws you in even before you can reflect upon his remarkable origins. He wore a best selling memoir ‘A Long Way Gone’ about his time as a child soldier during the civil war in Sierra Leone. His journey as a reluctant boy soldier is stunningly told, as well as his eventual journey to America. My friend Laura Simms, a professional storyteller, becomes his foster mother in the States, while Ishmael used writing and activism to heal from his mental wounds.
His story telling is impeccable and steeped in allegory and poetry.
…
His newest novel, is my 6 am read.
‘There was a pause that came at this hour, a sigh, when the waking had to decide whether to spend their day being useful or being destructive.’
My #Dubai is shades of green, full of soul, some crate furniture and artfully placed, subliminal messages.

Once upon a gold rush.
Questing for gold across India brought me in contact with not only spectacular places, pieces and traditions but people who have alchemized my life. Particularly post cancer, when I needed it. Short chemo cut, I was looking to wrap my arms around a new life and perspective. The network was not keen to have a host with ‘short hair’ but Bindiya and Raj of Blue Mango ignored the feedback snd coaxed me into wearing my new appearance with pride, yet lightly and naturally.

Repost @taramacleanmusic : We hear many references to the word “Sacred”. This sacred text, that sacred temple. But to say one thing is more sacred than another thing infers a separation, a dualism. What if the new paradigm of thought for an intelligent and evolving species is that everything is sacred. With our new knowledge of Quantum Physics, we now know that everything (the sidewalk, the spider, the snowflake) is made up of miraculous spinning galaxies, still deeply mysterious as we probe ever more deeply into these realms. So nothing could possibly be more magical than anything else, nothing could be thoughtlessly thrown away, no human being unloved, no child hungry, no corporations allowed to plunder, because it is all treasure, we are all treasure. Not even our deepest, searing pain would be seen as something to push away, for we would hold it like a new born baby until it fell peacefully asleep.
So look around, it’s alive. We are alive and awake and we are remembering something our ancestors had known and then forgotten: That life, in all its forms, is interconnected and worthy of our complete devotion.

You ever come across a woman that leaves you thinking “wow, women 😍”? That was us when our founder got to meet actress and author @lisaraniray.
Being the multiracial child of an Indian man and a Polish woman, Lisa struggled with her identity her entire life. As a deeper dive into her memoir Close to the Bone, Lisa told our founder about her experience as a mother, her time spent working on movie sets, her fight with cancer, and so much more. Lisa emphasises the hidden strengths that all women possess and we enjoy nothing more than getting to know the strong faces of women who enjoy Brulée Beauty 🤎
