Back in 2019 when reality was somewhat different, but with a sense of much needed change in the air, I played Lorelei on BBC’s (Before Big Chop 😜) Lethal White, starring #TomBurke and #HollidayGrainger. Parts 1 and 2 air tonight and tomorrow at 9pm @bbcone #strike #lethalwhite 🖤🤍💗🤎💙
Well I missed #nationalsiblingday and I’m still waiting for you to tell a joke as funny as this @tristangumede 💙💛💙#tbt #80skids
Thinking on times that turn life’s tide Do you ever see them coming? More than a gentle lap of a wave Every bit of your being is humming Don’t fight the current Or try to resist These feelings – though they may feel heady Lean into this force of nature’s caress Your feet will get wet – are you ready? #cc #poetry #brightonandhove #love #261120
Qwabe – a Kingdom in the KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, where the Qwabe/Gumede tribe originated. I named this poem Qwabe as I thought upon where I had come from in order to feel more grounded in myself, and ultimately to know where I want to go and what I want to be a part of. It was also to tie in with the IG live I did with @poeticunity, honouring their theme of the week; ‘Black and British.’ What started as a poem explaining myself unfolded into some discovery of self. Creativity usually leaves gifts like that ❤️❤️You can check out my conversation with @ragzcv on @poeticunity’s page – I share the poem about 40 minutes in. @poeticunity are doing incredible work supporting young people and bringing mental health issues into the light through the platform of poetry. Everyone who shares their work is welcomed, honoured and supported, and has their voice heard. I can’t think of anything more essential for the soul ❤️❤️#poetry #poems #poemsofinstagram #pubehindthescenes #blackandbritish #qwabe #kwazulunatal #zimbabwe

I was invited to share my poetry and write about my inspiration some of them for local magazine @kula_mag. Although I speak about the Black Lives Matter movement, this article doesn’t begin to cover the work that still needs to be done to ensure every intersection of both the black community and minority groups finally have equality. But I loved writing it, and you can read about this bird’s eye view of my time in this wonderful city I now call home via my bio or my stories. The talented @libbywellstattoo painted this picture from an original image by @clarewalshimage, and lots of other local talent are featured in the magazine too ❤️#creativity #brightonandhove #creativewriting #article #blm #poetry #localbusinesses #onlinemagazine

Here it is – the reading of my poem ‘Qwabe’ from yesterday’s conversation with @poeticunity – see previous post – full interview can be seen on their page. It’s not a perfect performance, but a work in process, like me ❤️ #poetry #poetsofinstagram #qwabe #kwazulunatal #zimbabwe #poems #poemsofinstagram #pubehindthescenes
I usually post some reflections – on the previous year or the new – around New Year’s Eve, but this year it took a minute. Haven’t we all had a lot to process?! I was gifted this beautiful HOPE #blm sweater by @uzmabozai and asked to share some of my hopes for 2021, so of course I thought it was about time for another poem ☺️ I wasn’t actually feeling all that positive today, so I slapped on the warpaint and made my little film here down at the beach (next time I won’t stand SO close to the sea 😆). It brought me out of my head, back into my body, and so I end the day feeling much lighter than I began. If we do that one thing for ourselves (and where we can, for each other) to bring lightness to each day, then 2021 could be a better year than we can currently imagine 🙏🏽 I’m not quite ready to say ‘happy new year’ yet, but I’ve plenty of hope that I soon will 💛💛 100% of profits from @uzmabozai’s HOPE sweatshirt are donated to SARI (Stand Against Racism and Inequality), who provide support for victims of hate crime including racist, faith-based, disablist, homophobic, transphobic, age-based or gender-based. #ubstrong #poetry #hope #brightonandhove
We live in an ethnically diverse country – I want to contribute to the arts sector reflecting that. I hope you do too @dcmsgovuk @aceagrams #cultureneedsdiversity 🖤🤎🤍💗❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
I’ve been going through a book of old poetry I wrote and came across this one from 2017. I was in LA doing the audition circuit during my first in-person pilot season; I must have clocked up about 40 auditions in a month with not a single booking or call back. Reading it again now just makes me smile. I used to approach auditions like some kind of test I had to pass, and that of course brings with it a certain level of intensity. Inevitably then, not getting a role felt like a reflection of my worthiness, or lack of. Fast forward five years, a pandemic, and a shit load of therapy, and an in person audition truly feels like a gift. The culture of the industry has changed so that now most auditions are carried out via self taping – actors rarely get to meet casting directors to try out for roles. These days when I do, yeah the nerves kick in, but so does excitement – it’s an opportunity to take notes on the character, to connect, to play, and sometimes, to fly. It also reminds me of how wonderful actors are; we show up, open our hearts, dust ourselves off in the face of every ‘no’ (and there are A. LOT.) and then we do it all over again. It’s a bonkers but brave way to live life, and I never want to change that about myself, no matter what direction I’m headed. ❤️#poetry #acting #actorslife #auditions #auditionlife #auditionpoem #actorspoem #actorsmentalhealth
