contemplating mermaidhood at paradise beach 🧜♀️
01: A Mermaid, John William Waterhouse, 1901 🎨
02: Mermaids Frolicking in the Sea, Charles-Édouard Boutibonne, 1883 🌊
I explored the Greek Island coasts last week with my friends for a dreamy summer holiday 😊 I’m often nervous of boats but luckily I had a great time and no troubles. I’ve been working hard lately so it was a delight to relax in the salty sun!

PAINTING TRANSFORMATION 🖌️ How did we do?
‘An Illicit Letter’ by Vittorio Reggianini was painted in the late 1800s. Reggianini’s mastery of silks and satins has made his work highly desirable, with this particular piece selling for £89,000 at Bonhams in 2012 at auction.
Myself and my best friend @adelicate_ decided to pay homage to this beautiful painting. We both sewed our own dresses, and I combined our photos virtually to complete the final result! What do you think?

There’s no greater thrill than wearing clothes you have sewn yourself 👗💃
A few weeks ago I decided to finally make use of an old pair of vintage floral curtains 🏡
Heavily inspired by 70s Prairie dresses, in particular, vintage Laura Ashley, this dress features a standing collar, lace detailed yoke with frill, leg-of-mutton sleeves with lace panels and pearl buttons, and a mighty skirt which holds more than 5 metres of length 😱
There’s still things I would try and improve on if I could sew it all over again, but I’m focussing on enjoying the fruits of my labour and the peace I had when sewing it 🧘♀️
If you sew too – tell me – do you always have the fear that for some reason it’s all going to fall apart as soon as you leave the house and be left bare? Tell me I am not alone! 🫢
Thank you to @hellomissjordan for a gorgeous day out, and for helping take these photos 🌸 Dalloway Terrace

👗 Parlour Scene with Two Ladies, by Vittorio Reggianini (1858 – 1938) 👗
Although not contemporary of the Regency era, Vittorio Reggianini – an Italian painter, and master of painting silks and satins – perfectly captures the imagination with the grand opulence of eras bygone.
My painting recreation was created with @photoshop, wearing a dress I had sewn myself 🪡
Can you spot the difference? 🤩 London, United Kingdom

Will somebody wear me to the fair? — Will a lady pin me in her hair? Will a child find me by a stream? — Kiss my petals, weave me through a dream —

The Lover’s Eye 👁️🗨️ a romantic and rare regency era trend in miniature portraiture ❣️
Less than 1,000 original Lover’s Eye miniatures are known to be in existence, so I had no choice but to try and paint my own! I’m no artist, but I took to my paints with my finest brush at hand 🖌️
WHAT IS A LOVER’S EYE PAINTING?
Before we had cameras at our disposal, for the wealthiest of the past, a miniature portrait was the only way to keep your loved one’s likeness on hand.
Said to be invented by Prince George of Wales 👑, in pursuit of a woman he was not permitted to marry, he instead sent her a small portrait of solely his eye in one of his love letters 💌 prior to their secret engagements. In return, she commissioned an eye portrait of her own for him to wear around his neck. 👁️
Eyes are the window to the soul, and by reducing the miniature portrait to only an eye, intrigue and anonymity could blossom 🌸 as a result. These trendy portraits became a tokenistic way to secretly carry your lover with you, without exposing who they may be.
Why not try and create your own too? Mayfair

neoclassicism and regency style, from 1700s 🧚 characterised by looser forms, short stays, and shirking some of the artifice of previous dominant eras.
My favourite is the frequent use of gloves, especially opera gloves ✨ I feel like they are due a return to daily dress, how about you?
The only way to celebrate the beauty of spring! 💐 Since discussing the art history of flowers lately, I just had to fill my home with them too. The bouquet in the jug is from my dear friend @adelicate_ 🌸

BEFORE & AFTER: Creating an Old Masters’ floral still life arrangement 🐛
Wow! I really tried my hardest with this but let me tell you, it was kind of difficult to replicate the beautiful way in which these artists paint… I feel like I’m so used to editing people, but editing flowers is a completely different ball game.
Would love to know your thoughts! Can you name any of these flowers?💐
P.S. ZOOM IN for bugs! 🐜🐞
