For years, we have known that cops get away with heinous acts without fear of legal consequence. Why might that be? What do they know?
There are protective systems at work in every level of the justice system designed to allow those representing the law, to break the law. This is how cops get off.
Narrated by @AdvancementProject board member, Jesse Williams, HOW COPS GET OFF is a series of four-minute videos examining major societal pillars and the laws and behaviors that keep cops unaccountable: the dominant NARRATIVE in tv shows, movies, and news, the PROTECTORS within our criminal legal system like prosecutors and police associations, and LAWS like qualified immunity, that shield cops from accountability.
The series is centered around a 6 week culture change campaign that will not only drive people to watch and share the videos but also engage in conversations about our current system and drive action to local grassroots partners who are pushing for new models of safety.
We created this series because the dignity of Black life cannot hinge on a verdict when policing practices and the criminal justice system protects cops and not us. True justice exists by developing new models of safety so that we are all free and safe.
It’s been an honor to partner with @AdvancementProject National Office and the incredible ANIMATION studio @eido.co! Watch our 3 part series as it unfolds and learn more @ www.policefreecommunities.org

PART II: THE PROTECTORS
